The 5th Avenue Theatre is thrilled to announce the nominees for the 15th annual 5th Avenue Awards Honoring High School Musical Theater, the highly anticipated award show proudly sponsored by Wells Fargo with additional support from The Boeing Company and Alaska Airlines.

A panel of nationally recognized judges-including casting director Michael Donovan, producer, director and choreographer Andy Ferrara, and actress Wendy Rosoff-announced the 2017 winners of The Rita Moreno California High School Musical Honors held last night at San Jose's Center for the Performing Arts.

Catherine Elliott and Antonio Cipriano, both from University Liggett High School in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, competed in and won the 6th annual Sutton Foster Ovation Awards at Wharton Center on Sunday, May 21, 2017.

Following highly skilled performances by competitors on May 21, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts announced the winners of its fifth annual Nevada High School Musical Theater Awards as Adelynn Tourondel from Green Valley High School and Nathan Sink from Centennial High School.

Named for local Broadway star Tom Wopat, the Tommy Awards Program at Overture Center for the Arts encourages, recognizes and honors excellence in high school musical theater each year and culminates in an annual awards show in Overture Hall. The 8th Annual Awards Tommy Awards Show will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 and will go on sale to the public Monday, May 22 at 11 a.m.

It's been a big week for Lipscomb Academy's Hatty King - last Saturday night, she had the honor of performing on the stage of Andrew Jackson Hall at Tennessee Performing Arts Center and then was presented the Spotlight Award as best actress at the Nashville High School Musical Theatre Awards - and her summer is shaping up to be even more than that…as she heads to New York City to spend a week working the best and brightest of Broadway stars and young aspiring musical theater actors from all over the country as they vie for top honors at The Jimmy Awards.

For the second year in a row, I had the great pleasure of attending the Triangle Rising Star Awards at the Durham Performing Arts Center. This regional competition brings together high school musical theater students from Central and Eastern North Carolina to perform and compete for the chance to represent the Triangle in The National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City this summer on June 26th. The national competition celebrates outstanding student performances in high school musical productions from all over the United States.

Two Utah high school performers are on their way to New York City after winning The Chevron Award for Best Actress and Best Actor in the seventh annual Utah High School Musical Theatre Awards held in the Eccles Theater in Salt Lake City May 13. Jessica Lewis from DaVinci Academy won for her role as Miriam in 'Fly By Night' and Levi Hopkins from Ridgeline High School won for his portrayal of Gomez Addams in 'The Addams Family.' The best of Michigan's high school theatre students are coming together Sunday, May 21, at Wharton Center's Cobb Great Hall for the 6th Annual Sutton Foster Ovation Awards.

Hatty King of Lipscomb Academy in Nashville and Nathan Keffer of Ravenwood High School in Brentwood took home top honors at the 2017 Spotlight Awards - held Saturday night at Tennessee Performing Arts Center's Andrew Jackson Hall - winning "Best Actress" and "Best Actor" awards respectively. The two travel to New York next month to compete nationally in the Jimmy Awards on June 26.

The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation, The Muny, and the Fox Theatre have announced the nominees for the first annual St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards to be held on Sunday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at the Fabulous Fox Theatre.

Pittsburgh CLO has announced the nominees for the 27th Annual Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater. The awards show will take place on Saturday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Benedum Center in downtown Pittsburgh.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS, the documentary film shot during the 2008 FREDDY Awards program by CANYONBACK FILMS, will air on 69 WFMZ TV on Saturday, May 20th in celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the FREDDY Awards.
