Theatre At St. Luke's to Debut Immersive In-the-Round Production Of STEEL MAGNOLIAS

Theatre at St. Luke's opens its 9th season with the classic comedic drama Steel Magnolias, by Robert Harling. Under the direction of Steve MacKinnon, the popular play turned iconic movie will be an immersive theatre-in-the-round experience. Audience members will step through the full-scale doors to Truvy's beauty parlor where they'll actually sit with the show's main characters, six southern women, navigating life together. Steel Magnolias opens March 6 at 7:00 p.m. and will run select dates through March 22. Tickets are $15-25 and are available at st.lukes.org/steelmagnolias.

As part of the 243rd season of the iconic ballet company, several productions by the Bolshoi Ballet are again being broadcast on cinema screens across sixty countries. As one of seven of these ballets, Swan Lake is surely the most iconic, having debuted at the Bolshoi theatre in 1877. Tchaikovsky's incredibly evocative score wasn't enough to secure initial success, but for many people today, Swan Lake is ballet.

Swan Lake, was fashioned from German and Russian folk tales and set to music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. See it performed by The Bolshoi Ballet, with new choreography by Yuri Grigorovich, in a LIVE in HD broadcast on the big screen at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Sunday, February 23rd at 12:55pm. Swan Lake is part of the Classical Series underwritten by Jeanne Cook, Liz & Steven Goldstone, and Sabina & Walter Slavin with support from Whistle Stop Bakery.

The much lauded, deservedly awarded MATTHEW BOURNE'S SWAN LAKE returns to thunderous ovations at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles a third time (second time in 2006) since its auspicious L.A. debut in 1997. What was considered ground-breaking and quite shocking to ballet traditionalists when Matthew Bourne originally switched out the delicate female corps of swans for a forceful, menacing flock of male swans has now remained as avant-garde and striking in its unique interpretation. Sharing the titular role of The Swan/The Stranger is Max Westwell in his debut role with Matthew Bourne's New Adventures' international touring company. I had the marvelous opportunity to pose a few queries to this imposing dancer.

Michigan Opera Theatre (MOT) and the University Musical Society (UMS) have announced the cast for American Ballet Theatre's (ABT) production of a?oeSwan Lake,a?? presented at the Detroit Opera House April 16-19. Starring in the role of Odette/Odile will be ABT Principal dancers Devon Teuchser, Isabella Boylston, Christine Shevchenko, Hee Seo and Gillian Murphy.
