Resnick had co-written the screenplay with Colin Higgins, the director of the film, in which Parton had her first screen role. The musical premiered at Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in September 2008 and opened on Broadway on April 30, 2009. It was nominated for 15 Drama Desk Awards, the most received by a production in a single year. It was also nominated for four Tony Awards.

The productino, which began performances on August 14, has an opening night of August 21, and will run through October 13. Based on the smash 1980 film, 9 to 5, The Musical is the hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the rolodex era. The musical features the blockbuster title song plus a jubilant Tony Award-nominated score by multi Grammy Award-winner Dolly Parton and a book by original screenwriter Patricia Resnick, The Marriott Theatre production will be directed by 11 time Jeff Award-winner David H. Last night, August 5, 2013, VERONIC Voices star, Veronic DiCaire, joined the cast of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET onstage for a special guest performance at Harrah's Las Vegas. Performing the voice of June Carter for the first time ever, the vocal impressionist sang a duet of 'Jackson' alongside MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET cast member, Benjamin D.
