This season, three plays are receiving Broadway debuts which already made significant noise off-Broadway in their original productions, years ago. Becky Shaw, Bug, and Marjorie Prime will all be opening on Broadway in early 2026 in brand new productions. The first and last are spending time on Broadway at the Hayes under the auspices of Second Stage while Bug is being presented by Manhattan Theatre Club at their home, the Friedman. 

The award-winning Two River Theater has announced the appointment of Dennis Chambers to the position of Associate Artistic Director. Chambers, a theater artist, administrator, and producer, began in his new role over the summer.

Asolo Repertory Theatre has announced complete casting for the epic closing of the 2024 – 2025 Season, Jesus Christ Superstar, which begins previews on May 14, 2025. Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lyrics by Tim Rice and directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes. Jesus Christ Superstar runs May 14 – June 15. 

Olney Theatre Center announced the three collaborative projects it will develop with week-long workshops as part of its Vanguard Arts Fund (VAF) during the 24-25 season.

Sugar Daddy, a new production by comedian/actor Sam Morrison opens September 29, 2024 (with previews beginning September 20th) at The Wallis before going to Broadway in 2025. Tony Award winner Stephen Brackett directs this new production written and starring Sam. Stephen found time to answer a few of my queries amidst his rehearsals with Sam.

The Wallis will host its 24/25 Season Opening Celebration, lasting  two weeks and featuring eight shows from all of The Wallis' different genres: Broadway, Popular Music, Classical Music, Theater, Opera, Comedy, and Dance.

National Alliance for Musical Theatre has revealed the roster of new musicals for their 36th Annual FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS, which is slated to take place on Thursday, October 24 and Friday, October 25, 2024, at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues).

Cameron Barnett, Carlis Shane Clark, Alvis Green Jr., Albert Hodge, Avionce Hoyles, Tarra Conner Jones, Jamari Johnson Williams and John-Andrew Morrison.
