If Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov were a dinner party, Richard Jones’s Russian-language revival at the Royal Opera House would be the dinner date where you arrive bright and curious and leave questioning your life choices, nursing a neat whisky in a corner. This is not an opera that gives up its secrets like a West End musical handing out catchy tunes. It is, in its original 1869 incarnation, seven tableaux of conscience-stripped torment, political intrigue and chorus lines that hammer their point home with power and precision.

The National Theatre has announced full casting for The Land of the Living - a new play by former Artistic Director of the Young Vic, David Lan - as rehearsals begin on the South Bank.

The Old Vic and Ustinov Studio, Theatre Royal Bath have announced the London premiere of Sophie Treadwell’s Machinal, directed by Richard Jones (Endgame, The Hairy Ape) and starring The Stage 100 2024 Rising Star Rosie Sheehy (Oleanna, Romeo and Julie), in a limited run from 11 April-01 June 2024.

The Metropolitan Opera presents a live transmission of Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute), one of Mozart’s most beloved operas, on Saturday 3rd June at 5.55pm. 

The Metropolitan Opera will present a live transmission of Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute), one of Mozart’s most beloved operas, on Saturday, June 3, at 12:55PM ET.

Of all the theatre directors that the Met has marshalled into its forces, Simon McBurney--who brought his version of Mozart’s DIE ZAUBERFLOTE (THE MAGIC FLUTE) to the Met on Friday in his house debut--may be the most successful in melding music and theatre, storytelling and visual elements.

Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (May 19–June 10), one of opera's most beloved works, receives its first new Met staging in 19 years from acclaimed English director Simon McBurney. In his Met debut, McBurney lets loose a volley of theatrical flourishes, incorporating projections, aerial and sound effects, physical comedy, a hovering platform, and acrobatics to match the spectacle and drama of Mozart's work. Maestro Nathalie Stutzmann—having made her Met debut earlier this season with Don Giovanni—performs Mozart double duty leading both productions running simultaneously. With the pit raised, the Met Orchestra musicians will interact with the cast. Gareth Morrell conducts the May 27 performance.

The Metropolitan Opera will close out its 2022–23 season with Don Giovanni, starting May 5, and Die Zauberflöte, starting May 19. Nathalie Stutzmann will make her Met debut as conductor of both works, with Ivo van Hove directing Don Giovanni and Simon McBurney staging Die Zauberflöte—also both making their Met debuts.

The Royal Opera House has announced that Richard Jones' epic 2022 production of Camille Saint-Saëns' operatic masterpiece Samson et Dalila is available on Royal Opera House Stream – the 60th production to be included since it launched last year. 

This March, after making her ENO directorial debut with the gripping new production of the multi-award nominated The Handmaid's Tale in 2022, Annilese Miskimmon (the ENO's Artistic Director) directs the new production of Erich Wolfgang Korngold's The Dead City (Die tote Stadt).

The Metropolitan Opera has announced the launch of The Met: Live at Home, a streaming platform that allows audiences to watch the Met’s acclaimed series of live simulcasts from any device in the comfort of their homes—the latest effort by the company to reach as broad a public as possible.
