Drew Gasparini and Alex Brightman’s new musical, It’s Kind of a Funny Story, is coming to New York for a special industry presentation as the project continues its path toward full production.

The producers of the four-time extended Off-Broadway hit Pen Pals will welcome back  Sharon Lawrence and Maureen McCormack in an encore performance as Bernie and Mags through January 18  at the DR2 Theatre.

Manhattan Theatre Club has canceled the final preview performance of BUG due to an illness in the company. The Broadway production, starring Carrie Coon and Namir Smallwood, is still scheduled to open January 8 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

​​​​​​​Shakespeare Theatre Company has announced a casting update for Paranormal Activity, an original story based Paramount Pictures' terrifying film franchise—now live on stage. 

Tony Award winners Mandy Patinkin, Maryann Plunkett, and more are among the stage alums joining the cast of Audible's The Space Within. The audio drama, led by fellow Tony winner Jessica Chastain, will return for a second season on Thursday, March 5, 2026, exclusively from Audible.

This season, three plays are receiving Broadway debuts which already made significant noise off-Broadway in their original productions, years ago. Becky Shaw, Bug, and Marjorie Prime will all be opening on Broadway in early 2026 in brand new productions. The first and last are spending time on Broadway at the Hayes under the auspices of Second Stage while Bug is being presented by Manhattan Theatre Club at their home, the Friedman. 

Wicked: For Good has received 7 nominations at the 31st annual Critics Choice Awards, including Best Picture. Other notable nominees in various categories include Hamnet, Blue Moon, The Testament of Ann Lee, and Kiss of the Spider Woman.

In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of CLUE: The Movie, original film star Lesley Ann Warren (Miss Scarlett) will travel to the Marcus Performing Arts Center for a special screening of the fan favorite film.

The Fine Arts Theatre Beverly Hills and Kat Kramer’s Films That Change the World will present a Stanley Kramer double feature on November 23, 2025. The program includes Judgment at Nuremberg and On the Beach, with a live panel discussion moderated by Kat Kramer.

Chicago Children’s Theatre, the city’s first and largest professional theater devoted to young audiences, will kick off its 2025-26, 20th anniversary season with Leo Lionni’s Frederick.

This North American premiere from Levi Holloway (Broadway’s Grey House) and Punchdrunk’s Felix Barrett (Sleep No More) features illusions by Tony Award winner Chris Fisher (Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child).

Paranormal Activity, in its North American premiere production, is from Levi Holloway, who chilled Broadway audiences with his Tony Award-nominated Grey House in 2023.

A Red Orchid Theatre will open its 33rd Season with the world premiere of Jojo Jones’ Veal, directed by Ensemble Member dado, running September 25–November 2, 2025. The dark comedy follows a newly crowned queen forced to confront old friendships and betrayals. Tickets are on sale beginning August 26 at aredorchidtheatre.org.
