BWW Review: HART ISLAND at The Gym at Judson
by Carissa Chesanek - Mar 28, 2022
The new play Hart Island recently opened at The Gym at Judson in New York City's West Village neighborhood, bringing with it an impressive set design and a memorable story. It was written by Tracy Weller, the founder of the theater company Mason Holdings, and directed by Kristjan Thor. The press release described the plays as a 'multimedia theatrical meditation on New York City's potter's field' and delivers just that and then some.

BWW Review: CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY IS WINNER at The Straz Center For The Performing Arts
by Deborah Bostock-Kelley - Oct 9, 2019
As the first familiar notes of 'The Candy Man' wafts across the audience in Carol Morsani Hall, I feel a strong sense of nostalgia. I grew up watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on television and am curious how a show with so many special effects could translate to the stage.

BWW Review: OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES at Eisemann Center
by Kathleen Anwar - Jul 18, 2019
Old Jews Telling Jokes: there couldn't be a more accurate and precise title for a show. A spunky cast of five tells classic Jewish jokes- themed around the stages of life, relationships, and of course, sex- throughout the duration of the performance.

BWW Review: Semi-Sweet CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY Gets Sprinkled Into OC's Segerstrom Center
by Michael Quintos - Jun 5, 2019
Despite its general pleasant nature, many cute moments, and a plethora of genuine talent on stage, this stage musical adaptation of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY---Roald Dahl's beloved 1964 children's novel about a sweet, affable kid who wins a meet-and-greet (and more!) with an eccentric Candy Man named Willy Wonka--- comes off less magical and whimsical than one would hope it would be considering its source material. Is this national tour production---now continuing performances at Segerstrom Center for the Arts through June 9---joyful enough for kids and kids-at-heart to enjoy? Sure. But, overall, something about it feels just slightly under-baked, as if all the additional necessary ingredients that would have made this musical extraordinary didn't quite make it into the mix.

A world of pure imagination, sprinkled with a willing suspension of disbelief, yet riddled with incongruities - welcome to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the stage musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's 1964 book of the same name.

by Nancy Grossman - Jan 11, 2019
The Boston premiere of the US National Tour of Roald Dahl's CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY opened at the Boston Opera House this week, just a year after the Broadway production closed. The core of the Broadway creative team brings in a 36-member cast, including the beguiling candy man Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas, his odd little troupe of orange-haired factory workers.
