Dana Delany began her acting career in New York City with roles on the daytime soap operas Love of Life and As the World Turns. She appeared on Broadway in A Life (1980) and off-Broadway in Blood Moon (1983). She later guest-starred on television series including Moonlighting, Magnum, P.I., and Thirtysomething. She appeared in the film Patty Hearst and gained wider recognition starring as Colleen McMurphy in the television series China Beach, which aired from 1988 to 1991.
Following the series, Delany appeared in films including Light Sleeper, Housesitter, Fly Away Home, and Exit to Eden. She co-starred in the television film Donato and Daughter and appeared in the feature film Tombstone. She also starred in the television film Choices of the Heart: The Margaret Sanger Story and appeared in television miniseries and films including Wild Palms, True Women, and Resurrection. She returned to Broadway in Translations (1995).
Delany established a voice acting career beginning with Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and voiced Lois Lane in Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, and the film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox. She appeared in television series including Pasadena, Presidio Med, and Kidnapped, and guest-starred on shows including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Boston Legal, and Battlestar Galactica. She also appeared in films including Mother Ghost, Spin, and Multiple Sarcasms.
From 2007 to 2010, Delany portrayed Katherine Mayfair on the television series Desperate Housewives. She later starred as Megan Hunt in the ABC drama Body of Proof, which aired from 2011 to 2013. Her later film and television work included Freelancers, a guest role on Castle (2010), and a role in the CBS drama The Code, for which she was cast in 2018.
