Review: 1999 at WAM Theatre
by Marc Savitt - Oct 28, 2025

1999 is well written and multi-layered. The subject matter is troubling and will likely elicit a wide range of responses undoubtedly influenced by one’s individual life experiences. The piece presents audience members with a number of questions that are highly topical and relevant. Like the subject matter itself, they are not easy, nor do the answers present themselves quickly or clearly.

Review: THE LEHMAN TRILOGY at Gulfshore Playhouse
by Elizabeth James - Feb 18, 2025

Gulfshore Playhouse's production of THE LEHMAN TRILOGY tells the story of the Lehman brothers and the rise and fall of their financial empire. The show is based on the true story of the Lehman brothers and their family, and spans 163 years; the 3 actors play the 3 original Lehman brothers, their other family members, and many other characters.

Review: Will Philadelphia’s LOVER Stay Anonymous?
by Richard Sasanow - Feb 4, 2025

Even though there’s no shortage of contemporary opera around, we all still long for the rediscovery of a delightful operatic work from the archives, particularly a comedy, of which there is a short supply. Would Opera Philadelphia’s THE ANONYMOUS LOVER (L’AMANT ANONYME)--by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-George, a contemporary of Mozart, with libretto by Francois-Georges Fouques Deshayes, Desfontaines--fit the bill? Hope sprang eternal, for me at least.

Review: Satire Aplenty in Moonbox Productions' THE THANKSGIVING PLAY
by R. Scott Reedy - Dec 9, 2024

Thanksgiving pageants – complete with Pilgrims, Native Americans, and oddly over-stuffed turkeys – were once the order of the day at elementary schools, with centuries-old precepts presented as truths.

Review: PRIMARY TRUST at Barrington Stage Company
by Marc Savitt - Sep 24, 2024

PRIMARY TRUST is a refreshingly intimate production. The production provides a space in which audiences are encouraged to examine our relationship to loneliness, grief, and our desire for connection. I encourage seeing charming, delightful, relevant, powerful production of PRIMARY TRUST at Barrington Stage Company’s St. Germain Stage.
Review: A RAISIN IN THE SUN at TheatreSquared
by Theresa Bertram - Sep 11, 2024

To open Season 19 at TheatreSquared, 477 W. Spring St, in Fayetteville, this amazing gem has brought another classic to the masses. For our viewing pleasure, A RAISIN IN THE SUN by Lorraine Hansberry, the first African-American woman to be produced on Broadway, is running now through  Sunday, Sept. 15, and you don’t want to miss it. Director Dexter J Singleton and his creative team deserve high praise for his visionary and sensitive handling of this groundbreaking play. It is relevant, it is moving, it is funny, and it will tug at your heartstrings as you hope that everything works out for the Younger family.
