Long Wharf Theatre has contracted with AMS Planning and Research to secure the services of Joshua Borenstein to serve as interim managing director.

Borenstein will serve at the theatre until a permanent successor is named. The Board of Trustees will begin the process of selecting a search firm to find the theatre's next managing director.

"We are thrilled to have Josh back to help us through this time of transition. He knows Long Wharf Theatre and is well respected by both the Board of Trustees and the staff," said Mary Pepe, chair of the Board of Trustees.
Borenstein is a Project Manager with AMS in its Fairfield, Connecticut office and will be serving with Long Wharf Theatre on a consulting basis. Prior to joining AMS, Josh was at Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut from 2003 to 2008, most recently as its Associate Managing Director. In this capacity, Josh was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization, including finance, human resources, contract negotiations, labor relations, and facilities. Josh had previously served as interim managing director in 2006.

"I'm thrilled at the Board of Trustees' decision to bring back Josh Borenstein. He had distinguished himself as here at Long Wharf for several years and he continues to distinguish himself at AMS. In addition to his continued professional excellence, Josh and I have tremendous respect for each other and a long standing friendship. He brings both professional expertise and personal warmth to the position," said Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein.
"I am honored to be invited back to Long Wharf to aid the Board and staff. Not only do I look forward to reuniting with my colleagues, but I am also excited about the opportunity to support and nurture Long Wharf's superb artistry," Borenstein said.

His AMS experience includes over 50 projects in strategic planning, cultural facility development, and market analysis. Recently, Josh was the lead researcher for Culture Track 2011, a comprehensive national study on arts participation that was released earlier this month. He also led an in-depth analysis of the Columbus, Ohio arts sector that offered recommendations to make it more sustainable. His clients have included producing arts organizations, performing arts centers, local and state arts agencies, national service organizations, and children's museums.

Prior to his tenure at Long Wharf Theatre, Josh was at the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston through Theatre Communication Group's "New Generations: Mentoring the Leaders of Tomorrow" program. In this role, he worked on a variety of strategic planning projects, including managing the logistics of the construction of the Huntington's Calderwood Pavilion. Josh also served in various roles at Yale Repertory Theatre in New Haven and at Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island. While at Trinity Rep, Josh began a partnership between the theatre and a children's psychiatric hospital.

Josh has been a guest lecturer at Yale University and at Boston University. He also served as Board President and as Treasurer of the Summer Cabaret at Yale as well as a community grant reviewer for the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven.

Josh earned a Master of Fine Arts in theatre management from the Yale School of Drama and a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in classical civilization from Wesleyan University.
