The Orchestra Now Presents Premieres Of Joachim Raff's Psalm 130: De Profundis And Lera Auerbach's De Profundis At Carnegie Hall

The Orchestra Now (TŌN) will perform the final concert in its Carnegie Hall season on Thursday, May 2 at 7 pm. The performance will showcase the New York City premieres of Joachim Raff's Psalm 130: De Profundis and Lera Auerbach's De Profundis (Violin Concerto No. 3) with internationally acclaimed violinist Vadim Repin, as well as EMI recording artist, soprano Elizabeth de Trejo. The U.S. premieres of these works will be performed by TŌN at Bard College's Fisher Center on April 27, and the program will be repeated on April 28.

Music Director Jaap van Zweden will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Bruckner's Symphony No. 8 at the 28th Annual Free Memorial Day Concert, Monday, May 27, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the performance; ticket distribution will begin at 5:00 p.m. The audio of the performance will be broadcast onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting. The program will be presented without intermission.

For its final concerts of the 2018-2019 season, New Amsterdam Singers, led by Music Director Clara Longstreth, will present music with roots in Argentina and Spain, featuring Misa a Buenos Aires/Misatango for chorus, strings, bandoneon, and piano by Argentine-born Martín Palmeri; two works by Astor Piazzolla from his cycle, Four Seasons of Buenos Aires; and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's Romancero Gitano for chorus and guitar, on poetry by Federico Garcia Lorca. The concerts will take place Thursday, May 16, at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, May 19, 2019, at 3:00 p.m., at The Church of the Holy Trinity, 316 East 88th Street (between First and Second Avenues).

Their May 8 concert, From Song Came Symphony, will explore the symphonic influence of composer Harry T. Burleigh, whose legacy is often tied to the concertization of the American spiritual. He is also increasingly credited as influencing some of the spiritual-inspired thematic material for the 'New World Symphony' and 'American String Quartet' of Antonin Dvorak. The Burleigh Society, which advances studies of black art music through scholarship and performance, hopes to broaden audiences' understanding of Burleigh's foundational contributions to American classical music.

This spring, Music Director Thierry Fischer and the Utah Symphony continue their Saint-Saëns recording cycle on Hyperion Records with Volume 2, comprising Symphony No. 2 in A minor, the Symphony in F major (“Urbs Roma”), and Danse macabre, featuring concertmaster Madeline Adkins. Launched to critical acclaim last winter, the three-volume set will be the first complete, commercial recording of Saint-Saëns's five symphonies by an American orchestra, as well as the orchestra's first recording project with independent British label Hyperion. Volume 2 is included among the label's May 2019 releases and is available digitally and in the UK on Friday, April 26 and in North America on Friday, May 3. New York Youth Symphony (NYYS) and Music Director Michael Repper are proud to announce the 2019-2020 season orchestra concerts to be performed in Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. The 2019-2020 season repertoire features a diverse array of works, from Joan Tower's Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman and Florence Price's Piano Concerto in One Movement, to crowd-pleasers such as Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, Respighi's Pines of Rome, and Mahler's “Titan” Symphony. Featured soloists include 13-year-old piano prodigy Harmony Zhu on Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, cellist Sterling Elliot on Dvořák's Cello Concerto, and pianist Michelle Cann on the Price Piano Concerto. Ms. Zhu will make her Carnegie Hall debut as part of the Roy and Shirley Durst Debut Artist series. Mr. Elliot is appearing as part of a partnership with the Sphinx Organization.
