Seeing those signs makes me want to cry tears of joy.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

I think most people who saw ‘Half a Sixpence’ in London are hoping it never appears again. We don’t need to encourage other producers to make wrong headed changes to classic musicals in places that don’t need them. That sad, I am glad you found enjoyment in seeing it.

This is literally the only negative thing I read or heard about this production. Most people definitely loved it, including myself.

They did an official sitzprobe with the entire cast yesterday. Several cast members posted pictures on their social media accounts only for it to disappear a few hours later. Exciting!

Is Simard staying with the show?

Yes. It seems like it. I can't wait to see her and Bernadette interact.

Jennifer Simard, should be the undisclosed understudy for Dolly, and send her out there doing her impression of Bernadette for a night (God forbid) Bernadette is out.

Did we ever find out if they were adding the extra solo songs for Dolly?

If they didn't for Bette, they most definitely will not for Bernadette.  They DID add that trunk song for Horace so the creative team obviously looked into adding material back into this revival of HELLO, DOLLY!  Those Ethel Merman songs didn't make the cut for this revival.

Why would they need a sitzprobe, are there different arrangements happening with Bernadette?

More as a respectful formality for Ms. Peters so she can hear herself with the entire production and actual orchestra after rehearsing the show for weeks with just a rehearsal band.

I would imagine that the keys will be different.

As an aside, I thought the revival of Half a Sixpence "improved" by Cameron was utter agony.

No offense to Bette, but Bernadette is a MUCH better singer then Bette and I remember Dollypop said they were adding things to the show for Bernadette. But who knows? They didn't add them to the original production until Ethel took over (Ethel being a better singer then several of the Dolly's )

I heard from a fairly decent source they're adding more choreography (he specifically said tap) for Bernadette.

I am unfamiliar with a sitz probe.  Is it anything like a sitz bath?

A sitzprobe is essentially the first time that the cast rehearses with the full orchestra, but essentially the actors/singers stand in place like it's a concert and don't do any of their blocking. They've most likely been rehearsing with just piano and maybe percussion up to this point, so it's an important (and exciting!) rehearsal.

Tap? In what number?

I don't know why Half a Sixpence is being discussed, but the revival is merde.  The show didn't need that kind of help.

Most likely in "Dancing". That's where they gave Ginger Rogers a bit more to do ( while giving Sondra Lee less).

Why would they add the Ethel Merman songs? I feel like the musical part for Dolly is perfect as is, and there is plenty of room to show off your voice. The Ethel Merman songs were written to show off Ethel Merman's very unique voice, which was very loud and brassy. Neither Bernadette nor Bette have voices anything like Merman's.

Now if Patti Lupone were ever to do Dolly, they could add the Ethel Merman songs back ...
