Like the rest of The King, every sound heard on “Animal” comes from two instruments: an acoustic guitar and Anjimile’s own voice. Throughout, Anjimile’s feelings of rage and frustration are tinged with sardonicism, and the song is accompanied by an equally potent video directed by Robby Operman.

San Diego-based quintet Pleasure Pill have shared their new Jonathan Rado produced single, “Wonder How.” An anthemic pop-rock song that gives way to psych freakout, it’s bombastic and dizzying, in contrast to last month’s “Not Giving Up,” which showcased the rising bands open-hearted classicist streak and love for 90s British bands.

The Black Legacy Project launched in September 2021, partnering with communities nationwide to promote transformative dialogue crossing racial and political divides. The first areas to participate were The Berkshires/Western Massachusetts, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Denver, The Mississippi Delta, the Arkansas Ozarks and Boise.

Soccer Mommy – Nashville-based artist Sophie Allison – recently shared her version of Sheryl Crow’s “Soak Up The Sun' and now reveals that the cover is part of an EP entitled Karaoke Night. Cormac Mac Diarmada from LANKUM plays strings on “Feel Life”, which speaks to diverse kinds of grief – losing loved ones to overdose and suicide; losing love where a connection can’t be sustained; seeking out ways to better understand love –, slashing, shimmering guitar both a foil for and echo of Cogan’s imploring, trance-like timbre.

When authorities found Scott Johnson’s body at the rocky base of a cliff in Australia in 1988, they declared his death a suicide. The gay American mathematician’s tragic demise and the murky circumstances surrounding it set his older brother Steve Johnson’s decades-long pursuit for answers in motion.

Atlanta-by-way-of Brooklyn rapper Ben Reilly releases his new Not Your Hero 4 Hire EP via Abstract Media/AWAL Recordings. Ben is set to unveil the music video for “PhotoShoot,” a previously released single on the EP. The six-track project invites listeners into the abstract, comic book-illustrated world that is Ben Reilly.

The Brook & The Bluff will release their highly anticipated new album Bluebeard next month but before then are releasing another song, “Headfirst.” It’s a gorgeous, meditative song which draws heavily from the moodier and melodic beauty of Justin Vernon’s Bon Iver project. 

Their 13 long players include benchmark-raising classics Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (1980), Organisation (1980), Architecture & Morality (1981), and Dazzle Ships (1983). OMD conquered the United States, and yielded the 1986 hit, 'If You Leave' from the Pretty In Pink Soundtrack. They have also achieved 12 top 20 hits on the UK Singles Chart.

Since its formation in 2018 by like-minded Calarts students Alex Kent (guitar, vocals), April Gerloff (bass), and Sylvie Simmons (guitar)— plus the recent addition of Clint Dodson (percussionist)— Los Angeles quartet Sprain has honed its signature flavor of experimentalism to a razor-fine point.

The band is centered around the songwriting of brothers MAX (vocals, guitar) and COLE BECKER (vocals, guitar), who’ve fronted the band through many evolutions, and now sees the addition of their brother CADE BECKER on bass. SWMRS enlisted their grandmother to star in the music video for “Little Miss Sunshine,” directed by COLE.

The art-rock quartet of Max Jaffe, Ro(b) Lundberg, Jessica Pavone, and Dave Scanlon known as JOBS announced the next phase of their unapologetically experimental art-rock saga with the new album Soft Sounds. Their fourth release for Ramp Local, the album follows up two full lengths, 2017's endless birthdays.
