Hudson Theatre Works Announces 2018 - 2019 Season

Hudson Theatre Works is happy to announce its 2018 - 2019 season. We are excited to be able to do this since this is our first full year in our new space.

Last year we moved into the old Wilson School at 80 Hauxhurst Street, in Weehawken, NJ.

The city of Weehawken and Mayor Richard Turner, have given Hudson Theatre Works the opportunity to create a year long schedule for the first time in its history.

On September 15th, Randy Noojin will present, as a benefit performance, his one person show, "Seeger." Seeger is a critically-acclaimed multimedia solo show about America's beloved folksinger, Pete Seeger. The audience get to spend an evening with Pete as he plays a benefit concert advocating the end of the U.S.-Cuban trade embargo, where he sings a dozen of his signature songs, including "If I Had a Hammer", "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", "Turn! Turn! Turn!", "We Shall Overcome", and "Guantanamera" to tell the story of his awakening as an activist, and his struggles with the blacklist during the McCarthy-era.

Opening October 4 and running thru October 21st is Anton Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya" in a new adaptation by Michael Puzzo. An exhilarating revival, Vanya and his niece Sonya struggle to care for the estate owned by Vanya's brother-in-law, a wealthy and celebrated professor. When this local legend returns with a beautiful new wife and announces his plans to sell the estate, hidden passions explode and the lives of the entire family come undone. This Hudson Theatre Works-commissioned world premiere translation, performed in an unusually intimate and conversational style, provides an up-close encounter with a classic of world drama that every theatre-lover must see.

The Holiday show will be a new comic work by Luigi Jannuzzi, called AND MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME! (12 Holiday Comedies), Santa, Elves, French Hens,Geese, Cats, Princes, Magical birds, Frogs, Princesses & beautiful Swans! What's not to love?

Next up is a rare revival of Harold Pinter's "The Caretaker," running February 7 thru 24. A pair of working-class brothers allows a homeless man to stay in their decrepit London flat, an act of compassion that sparks a cycle of cruelties, delusions, and shifting loyalties in a desperate struggle over territory. Pinter's first great success, this work powerfully displays his sharp intelligence, masterful and spare use of language, and uncompromising exploration of life's menace and comedy.

The Spring Show in April/May is TBD but will be a new work by a New Jersey Playwright and we will return with our very popular 10 Minute Play Festival, starring our company of actors from The Forge, and which last year included new plays written for Hudson Theatre Works, including plays by John Patrick Shanley, Neil LaBute, Erin Mallon, and Nicole Pandolfo.

Also, included in the season is a special event of Mike Folie's newest one person show "My Dead Wife." His last show, the Solo award winning "3 Men," premiered at Hudson Theatre Works and this one will come to New Jersey after it's run at the 2018 Solo Festival in New York, Mike will perform his latest work at Hudson Theatre Works, directed by Artistic Director, Frank Licato.

Hudson Theatre Works will also begin to teach classes in acting, directing, playwrighting and screen writing. More to come.
