Buddhist Art of Dunhuang

Over 45,000 square meters of frescos dating back to AD 366 cover the ceilings, walls, and floors of the famous cave temples near Dunhuang, China. Within the hallowed walls are ancient scriptures and artwork that comprise one of the world's most extensive collections of Buddhist art.

Join Roderick Whitfield, professor of Chinese and East Asian Art and head of the Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art at the University of London, as he discusses the importance of Dunhuang along the Silk Road, the significance of the caves, and the stories behind the art within. Learn how many of these paintings and manuscripts have travelled across the globe and are displayed today in museums in London, New Delhi, Tokyo, and beyond.
