theatreWashington Announces New Partnership with Celebrity Cruises

As theatreWashington approaches its 30th Annual Helen Hayes Awards celebration, it also celebrates an exciting new partnership-with acclaimed cruise line Celebrity Cruises, now the "official" cruise line of theatreWashington.

theatreWashington's President & CEO Linda Levy explained, "Celebrity Cruises and theatreWashington are both attempting to reach a similar audience in our community. This partnership allows us to synergize with Celebrity by connecting with their market and helping to bring them into the theatre. And it helps Celebrity connect with Washington-are theatergoers about their extraordinary product."

Celebrity Cruises spokesman David Siewers explained, "We cater to the folks who are looking for a higher level of detail, who like good food and who love the arts. The theatre audience seemed a perfect fit for that, and the Washington theatre audience in particular." An area resident and self-avowed theatre lover, Siewers is well acquainted with the area's rich offerings. "We didn't want to limit ourselves to partnering with a single theatre company," he says. "We wanted to reach out to the entire community, and to the region's entire theatre audience."

Levy noted that the partnership will be announced officially at this Monday's 30th Annual Helen Hayes Awards, to be held at the National Building Museum. At Monday's celebration, Celebrity Cruises will host a "Celebrity Lounge," replete with features from its top of the line ships for that salty-air feeling. "I hesitate to put it this way," Levy said, "but that's just the tip of the iceberg."

Celebrity Cruises and theatreWashington will be making another big announcement from the stage at the Helen Hayes Awards about the future of their partnership.

The Helen Hayes Awards is a program of theatreWashington, the only organization dedicated to strengthening, representing, and supporting all segments of Washington's professional theatre community - theatres, artists, company members, and diverse audiences of all ages - and our community as a whole.
