Michael Cumpsty's first appearance on a Roundabout stage was in 1987 as a "moonstruck poet" in the Off-Broadway production of George Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman. Since then, he has appeared in 17 Broadway shows including five Roundabout productions and has been nominated for a Tony Award and two Outer Critics Circle awards. Cumpsty's most recent appearance on Broadway is in Machinal, now playing at the American Airlines Theatre through March 2. (more...)

I am happy to announce further casting for our upcoming production of Violet. Joshua Henryand Colin Donnell will join the previously announced Sutton Foster. Colin joined the Roundabout family starring opposite Sutton in our Tony Award-winning production of Anything Goes. And Joshua, who also played Flick in the Encores Off-Center Reading, was nominated for a Tony for his performance in The Scottsboro Boys. After a sold out run at Roundabout Underground's Black Box Theatre, Joshua Harmon's hit comedy Bad Jews moved upstairs to the Laura Pels Theatre for our 2013-2014 Season. This production played a total of 100 performances from first preview on September 19 through the extended closing date of December 29. Original cast members Tracee Chimo, Philip Ettinger, Molly Ranson and Michael Zegen came back to our stage under the direction of Daniel Aukin. (more...)

Lyndsey Turner: I first read Machinal when I was at university: I was struck by the boldness of the writing, the way Treadwell follows, with brutal inexorable logic, the journey of an unremarkable woman through a series of encounters which lead her to commit a remarkable act. The play is a brilliant account of the impact of mechanization and industrialization on American society, as well a forensic and unflinching portrait of a young woman in crisis. (more...)
