(4/11/2014) - A world premiere play from one of Seattle's best, Stephanie Timm, directed by one of Seattle's best, Darragh Kennan and from one of Seattle's best theatre groups, New Century Theatre Company. Seems like a dead lock winner right? But while I still found "Tails of Wasps" currently playing at ACT thoroughly engaging and interesting I wasn't so blown away by it as I have been by others from this group. And yes, I may be holding them up to a higher standard, but that's what you get for consistently being on the top.

(4/9/2014) - "All the world's a stage," even for cats. Stop by the BPA Gallery in May for "Theatrical Cats," a whimsical collection of colored-pencil assemblages by Susan Eileen Wiersema. In this collection, Susan creates her own small theatres. She chose the poems of T.S. Eliot as her scripts. Her reflection on the poetry inspired new images and created a special vehicle for the use of her colored pencils, and of course, her cats. "With theatre and cats," she says, "you can't really go wrong."

by BWW News Desk (Seattle)

(4/9/2014) - Bainbridge Performing Arts is pleased to announce Liz Ellis as the winner of the fourteenth annual Amy Award for Emerging Artists. Liz, who began her work in the arts as a child in Bainbridge Performing Arts' Theatre School, reminds us that the performing arts extend far beyond the stage. A recent graduate of Hampshire College, Liz is an accomplished writer, video producer, graphic artist, mentor, and educator who consistently inspires both her contemporaries and also the students who look up to her in BPA's education program, where she has taught for more than seven years. While one may still catch Liz performing on stage or in scenes from her award-winning web series, 'Wrecked,' she has developed a depth of understanding and acquired a broad-spectrum investment in the craft that BPA is proud to promote.

by Jay Irwin (Seattle)

(4/9/2014) - Balagan Theatre is bringing one of the oddest topics for a musical to the Seattle Rep with the world premiere of "Ernest Shackleton Loves Me". From anyone else this might seem like a stretch but from the minds of Valerie Vigoda and Brendan Milburn, who brought us the likes of Striking 12 and Sleeping Beauty Wakes, along with book writer Joe DiPietro, a story about a single mother/musician who begins a Skype conversation with Ernest Shackleton as he journeys across the Antarctic is just a jumping off point for something magical. I recently sat down with co-author and one of the leads of the show Valerie Vigoda along with fellow cast mate Wade McCollum to discuss this odd pairing.
