As my dance mentor, Ms. Travers instilled in me my desire to become a dancer and choreographer. It fills me with joy to have her set work on my dancers here at VDT. It fills me with greater joy that she will be bringing her dancers to join us on this journey. It is a wonderful opening to VDT's 5th season. As a dancer, her choreography will fill your spirit. La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts
8/1-8/3/2014
Featuring the music of the seminal Swedish band ABBA, this rambunctious romp by the Troubies brings the noise, the funk, and the dysfunctional-family vibe to life in this masterwork of the Greek canon. The award-winning Troubadour Theater Company is a free-wheeling, no holds barred, Commedia Dell'Arte flavored, slapstick driven Los Angeles-based ensemble of actors, musicians, and comedians. Their fast-paced, laugh-filled, loose adaptations of classic plays make for a unique and exciting experience for theatre-goers of any age. The "Troubies" have combined the beauty of classic texts with feats of acrobatic physicality, comic routines, and musical numbers. What makes for even more fun is the clownish, interactive style in which the performances are presented. In recent years the Troubies have put their spin on all genres of classic tales, such as Fleetwood Macbeth, Much A Doobie Brothers About Nothing, A Midsummer Saturday Night's Fever Dream, Two Gentlemen of Chicago, and Frosty the Snow Manilow.

One of the greatest musicals of all time returns in triumph to its birthplace, nearly three decades after its world premiere at The Old Globe, in an inventive new production from Fiasco Theater that originated at McCarter Theatre Center and had The New York Times cheering, "I fell head over heels! Fun, poignant, and truly enchanting." Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony Award-winning masterpiece weaves together beloved fairy tales, then ventures into the unknown territory of life after "happily ever after." Fiasco Theater, critically acclaimed for their reinventions of the classics, conjures a mythical world of theatrical invention with 10 actors and a handful of musical instruments. Two women and one man are locked up together for eternity in one hideous room in hell. The windows are bricked up; there are no mirrors; the electric lights can never be turned off; and there is no exit. The irony of this hell is that its torture is not of the rack and fire, but of the burning humiliation of each soul as it is stripped of its pretenses by the cruel curiosity of the damned. Here the soul is shorn of secrecy, and even the blackest deeds are mercilessly exposed to the fierce light of hell. It is an eternal torment.
