Tony Award winner Cynthia Nixon joins the Broadway cast of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing opposite Ewan McGregor and Maggie Gyllenhaal. She'll play the role of Charlotte. The show will begin performances at Roundabout Theater Company's American Airlines Theatre on October 2, 2014, directed by Sam Gold. Gyllenhaal will make her Broadway debut starring as 'Annie' opposite McGregor as 'Henry'. (more...)

Trinity Rep continues its commitment to new plays with the world premiere of Veronica Meadows by Stephen Thorne, directed by Michael Perlman in Trinity Rep's intimate Dowling Theater from April 3 to May 4, 2014. Girl detective Veronica Meadows has been solving small town crimes for as long as anyone can remember. Time and time again, they stop the evil-doers in their tracks and heroically save the day. That is, until the day our plucky girl detective stops following the rules of the game and takes a dangerous turn into the unknown. This world premiere is a darkly comic gem from Stephen Thorne, resident actor and playwright of The Completely Fictional- Utterly True - Final Strange Tale of Edgar Allan Poe. Theatrical singer, songwriter, actor, writer, model, dancer and DJ, Kenyon Phillips announced today that writer/blogger Michael Musto, writer/performer David Cale, and actor/singer and drag performer Flotilla DeBarge (HBO's Angels in America) will join the cast of the world premiere performance of The Life + Death of Kenyon Phillips. Musto will play the role of Kenyon's therapist, Cale a reporter, and Flotilla will portray Kenyon's ex-girlfriend, Gina. A new production of Johann Strauss Jr.'s New Year's Eve classic, the comedic operetta Die Fledermaus, will open at the Met on December 31. Jeremy Sams, writer and creator of the Met's Baroque pasticheThe Enchanted Island, makes his company debut as director with the new staging, which is set in Vienna at the turn of the 20thcentury. Sams also contributes new lyrics for Strauss's work, which will be performed entirely in English; Tony Award-nominated playwright Douglas Carter Beane makes his Met debut with new dialogue. Adam Fischer conducts a cast of rising opera stars and Broadway performers. The cast is led by Susanna Phillips and Christopher Maltman as the unhappily married Rosalinde and Eisenstein; Jane Archibald as Rosalinde's feisty maid, Adele; Anthony Roth Costanzo as Prince Orlofsky; Michael Fabiano as Rosalinde's former lover, Alfred; Paulo Szot as the bumbling Dr. Falke; and Patrick Carfizzi as the prison superintendent, Frank. Broadway stars Danny Burstein and Betsy Wolfe make Met debuts as the drunken jailer, Frosch, and Adele's sister, Ida.
