Polly Carl, Kristoffer Diaz & More Join Samuel French's Advisory Committee

Samuel French, the 184-year-old publishing and licensing company, has announced the new members of its 2014 Advisory Committee. They comprise notable industry professionals representing a wide spectrum of interests and perspectives in the theatrical community. The 2014 Advisory Committee members are Polly Carl (Director and Editor of HowlRound: A Center for the Theater Commons at Emerson College), Kristoffer Diaz (playwright and educator; plays include The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Welcome to Arroyo's, The Upstairs Concierge), Seth Glewen (Co-Head of The Gersh Agency Theater Department), Amanda Green (Tony-nominated lyricist/composer), Mark S. Hoebee (Producing Artistic Director of the Paper Mill Playhouse), David Roth (Head of Theatre Dept. at Staples High School in Westport, CT), and Lou Ursone (Executive Director of Curtain Call Theatre). 2014 Lenya Competition Finalists Revealed; Judy Kaye, Rob Berman & James Robinson Will Judge

Fourteen exceptionally talented young singer-actors have been selected as finalists in the 2014 Lotte Lenya Competition. They will compete for top prizes of $15,000, $10,000 and $7,500 on Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Rochester, New York. Broadway conductor and Encores! music director Rob Berman, 2-time Tony Award winner Judy Kaye, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis Artistic Director James Robinson will judge. (more...)

Isaiah Johnson and Stephanie Umoh Star in THE MUSIC MAN: IN CONCERT at Two River Theater and NJPAC, Beg. Tonight

New Jersey Performing Arts Center (President and CEO John Schreiber) and Two River Theater (Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst) announced today the full cast of Meredith Willson's The Music Man, a concert version of the classic Tony Award-winning musical, directed by Obie Award-winner Robert O'Hara, with music direction by Kenny J. Seymour. America's favorite musical about big brass bands and small-town spirit will be performed by an African-American cast. The River City, Iowa setting will be based on historical accounts of black communities established during the Great Migration as former slaves moved across the U.S. following the Civil War. Tony Award nominee Rory O'Malley (THE BOOK OF MORMON) just debuted the world premiere of his autobiographical show, PUB CRAWL, at Joe's Pub on March 10, 2014. PUB CRAWL is Rory's coming of age story that tells the tale of being raised in an Irish pub on the west side of Cleveland by his single mom and all of the bar's eclectic patrons. Using classic Irish pub songs from The Wolftones, U2, Van Morrison and more, the evening will feature music direction by Tony and Grammy Award winner, Stephen Oremus. The world premiere production of the brand new musical comedy Bullets Over Broadway, written by Woody Allen and based on the screenplay by Allen and Douglas McGrath for the 1994 film, will begin preview performances tomorrow, March 11 and officially open Thursday, April 10, 2014 at The St. James Theatre (246 West 44th Street). New Ohio Theatre Artistic Director Robert Lyons in association with Purpleman Theater have announced casting for Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel's And Baby Makes Seven. Marc Stuart Weitz will direct ensemble including Ken Barnett (Wonderful Town, Julie Taymor's The Green Bird) as Peter, Susan Bott (Julie Kramer's The Best of Everything) as Ruth and Constance Zaytoun (Moby Pomerance's Broken Hands) as Anna. And Baby Makes Seven is an uproarious and timely comedy that has not been seen professionally in New York in 20 years. Performances will take place today, March 11-April 12 at the New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street, between Washington and Greenwich Streets). Critics are welcome as of March 19 for an opening of March 23. (more...)

Off-Center series, under the artistic direction of Jeanine Tesori, will return this summer for a second season of landmark Off-Broadway musicals. The season opens with Jonathan Larson's tick, ticků BOOM!, June 25 - 28, starring Lin-Manuel Miranda and Karen Olivo, directed by Oliver Butler, and continues with a one-night only performance of Randy Newman'sFaust: The Concert, with Randy Newman as the Devil, directed by Thomas Kail, on July 1. Pump Boys and Dinettes, withbook, music and lyrics by John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann , directed by Lear deBessonet and choreographed by Danny Mefford, wraps up the season, running July 16 - 19. Official: HAMILTON, Written by and Starring Lin-Manuel Miranda, Set for Public Theater's 2014-15 Season

As first reported by BWW yesterday, HAMILTON, written by the Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer and lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda, will have its world premiere next January as part of The Public's 2014-15 season at Astor Place. Directed by his In The Heights collaborator Thomas Kail, this new musical features Miranda playing Alexander Hamilton, one of our country's Founding Fathers and the first Secretary of the Treasury. The first group was presented in October 2013 and the second group will take place todays in March 2014. All readings will begin at 7:30pm in the Chase Room of the Madison Public Library on 39 Keep Street in Madison, NJ. Readings are free with a suggested donation of $10. Straight from Skid Row, Audrey II is taking a bite out of Seattle in Little Shop of Horrors, the delightfully demented musical comedy about a man and his plant. Based on the 1960 black comedy film, this hysterical musical devours audiences in the fourth of an incredibly successful string of collaborations between The 5th Avenue Theatre and ACT - A Contemporary Theatre. After his recent Broadway debut at the helm of First Date, The 5th Avenue's own Bill Berry will direct this camp horror hit that ran for five years Off-Broadway. Little Shop of Horrors features an incredible cast that includes Seattle stars Joshua Carter, Jessica Skerritt, Jeff Steitzer, David Anthony Lewis, Eric Esteb, Ekello J.
