Anytime a company presents something I don't expect to see in a festival setting, it generally peaks my interest. The Laramie Project is one of those shows I never thought I would see performed in Capital Fringe. When The Wandering Theatre Company presents the piece and then disrespects the material by doing things to the show that are not needed it results in the following diatribe even if the production features some strong performances. People's Light is proud to announce Sanjit De Silva, James Ijames, Deepa Purohit, and Laura Schellhardt as the participating playwrights in the second round of the company's groundbreaking New Play Frontiers Residency & Commission program. The playwrights officially begin the program on July 9, 2017, in conjunction with the final performance of Project Dawn by Karen Hartman, the first New Play Frontiers play to premiere at People's Light. This second round of residencies and commissions, along with the production of Project Dawn, are made possible in part by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. (more...)

Algonquin Theater Productions, in association with What If Productions is proud to present The Bet, a new musical by Tony Sportiello and David Wolfson, as part of this year's Midtown International Theatre Festival. The two person musical is directed by Tom Herman, and features the talents of Dana Aber and Spencer Plachy. Performances are Wednesday, July 26th at 6pm, Friday, July 28th at 7:15pm and Saturday, July 29th at 4pm. The show is slated to run Off Broadway in the fall of 2017. (more...)
