Phoenix Theatre to Stage CLARK GABLE SLEPT HERE, 9/18-10/19

Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis announces Clark Gable Slept Here opening September 18 on the Steve and Livia Russell Stage. This production runs through October 19, 2014, with Bryan Fonseca serving as director. The production will be a regional premiere, with the play having had its world premiere at Zoetic Stage in Miami earlier this year in the spring of 2014. While many are unaware of him, Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz 'Witkacy' (1885-1939) was a prolific Dramatist, Poet, Novelist, Painter, Photographer, Art Theorist and Philosopher; one of the most colourful personalities of twentieth-century Poland. While his work stretches far and wide, a hugely insightful new book provides us with a consideration of Witkacy's artwork, philosophy and theatre together in one definitive collection. September 18th will mark the 75thanniversary of the day he took his own life, the same day the Russians invaded Poland from the east. (more...)

Written by Michael Bradford, this new play stars Martin Sola as Juan Luis Trescante Medina, the aging fascist who claims responsibility for the murder of poet-playwright Federico Garcia Lorca, played by Nicholas Urda. The Marsh announces the newest solo show by award-winning actor/playwright Dan Hoyle, EACH AND EVERY THING, will give its final performance October 4. Originally scheduled to run through July 12 and extended twice, the show was an instant hit with audiences and critics alike, receiving highest accolades from every news outlet. A search for connection in the digital age, the show will take its final bow on October 4, after which Hoyle will return to his home base in New York City, where the show is scheduled to be performed at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater. Developed with Charlie Varon and Maureen Towey, and directed by Charlie Varon, EACH AND EVERY THING will play 8pm Thursdays and Fridays, 5pm Saturdays, and 2pm Sundays at The Marsh San Francisco MainStage Theater. A Contemporary Theatre announces the west coast premiere of writer/actor Ayad Akhtar's The Invisible Hand, about an American investor kidnapped by a militant group in Pakistan. Akhtar won the Pulitzer Prize in 2013 for his play Disgraced, which opens on Broadway this fall. The Invisible Hand premiered at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis studio series in 2012. Since then, Akhtar has continued development on the script, added a character, and he will participate in the creative process as the show develops in Seattle, spending time in the rehearsal room and audience preview process. Philadelphia Theatre Company Gets $2.5M Grant, Plus Plan for Reorganization

Just over a year ago, Philadelphia Theatre Company's South Broad Street home was foreclosed on by the bank. Now according to Newsworks, one of the theatre's major benefactors, Suzanne Roberts, has just given a $2.5 million grant under the condition of company reorganization, which will be headed by the Kennedy Center's Michael Kaiser. Roberts's spokesperson Kevin Feeley told Newsworks: 'Just by the fact that he's joined us, he's implied - he's not implied, he's told us - he thinks there's something here to work with. We think there's a good chance for the theater going forward.' (more...)
