Created by the team behind the critically acclaimed 2015 production of Heather Smiley for President, the musical has a book and lyrics by Tom Attea, with music composed by Arthur Abrams. The production is directed by Mark Marcante. THE FOLK SINGER will play a limited engagement through October 23rd. Also opening this weekend are three new one act plays by Lorinne Vozoff and Eduardo Machado Directed by Eduardo Machado Starring Sharon Ullrick, Lorinne Vozoff and Eduardo Machado Lighting Design: Alexander Bartenieff  Costume Design: Michael Bevins Stage Manager: Fran Acuna-Almiron From two old friends who seem to have fallen for the same man.... again, to a chance meeting on a park bench, to a showdown between two theatrical giants, LIFE MASKS is a collection of one acts celebrating that even though you might now be of a certain age, you still can fight for what you believe (more...)

Playwrights Foundation (PF) is pleased to announce the line-up of playwrights for the 2016-2017 Rough Readings Series in partnership with the National Center for New Plays at Stanford University, now in its 11th year. Beginning October 24th and 25th with workshop early draft  readings of ALL FALL DOWN by Lisa Ramirez (PF Resident Playwright), the series continues monthly December 2016 through May 2017 with seven exceptional new works that are pushing into new theatrical territory, challenging assumptions, and presenting deeply felt dilemmas within our culture and world society. Such is the case in Lucy Alibar's world premiere THROW ME ON THE BURNPILE AND LIGHT ME UP in which she enthusiastically and humorously shares journal entries blending scenes of a lecherous goat, Pentecostals on the radio, disputes with a childhood freinemy, a clutter of inbred cats, phone calls from death row, Daddy's burnpile, and countless other rich ingredients into a delicious and magical stew of stories about her singular childhood in Grady County, Florida. The play is currently onstage through October 2, 2016,.at the Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre in downtown Culver City, directed by Center Theatre Group Associate Artistic Director Neel Keller. Latino Theater Company's 10th annual Gala - The Latino Theater Company celebrates 30 years of success with a fundraising "Dia de los Muertos" gala event featuring a cocktail reception, silent auction and gourmet dinner. Honoring public figures who have dedicated their careers and lives to servicing the arts in Los Angeles, LTC's Marco Antonio Firebaugh Legacy Award will be presented to Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de Leon; retired partner of Latham & Watkins Donald P. Baker; Executive Vice President of Sony Pictures Entertainment John Naveira; and General Manager of Goya California Robert A. Unanue. The company's Lupe Ontiveros Dream Award will go to Associate Artistic Director of Center Theatre Group Diane Rodriguez. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Latino Theater Company's productions as well as outreach programs that contribute arts education and cultural enrichment to our city. (more...)
