The issue of racism is front and center in America today and the Ivoryton Playhouse production of SOUTH PACIFIC could not be more timely. The story for Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1949 musical is drawn from a Pulitzer-Prize-winning novel by James A. Michener, entitled Tales of the South Pacific, and is considered by most critics to be among the greatest musicals of the twentieth century. For their adaptation, Rodgers and Hammerstein, along with co-writer Joshua Logan, won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1950. (more...)

The Other Theatre Company and Artistic Director Carin Silkaitis have announced the company's second production in its inaugural season, Bent, written by Martin Sherman and directed by Keira Fromm, at Strawdog Theatre, 3829 N. Broadway, June 27 - July 26. Preview performances are June 27 at 4 and 8 p.m. Opening/Press night is Wednesday, July 1 at 8 p.m. The regular performance schedule is Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. (no show Thursday, July 9) Saturdays at 4 and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 4 p.m. Preview tickets are $20 with the regular run tickets $25 and may be purchased at www.buzzonstage.com/theatres/other-theatre-company. Actors' Equity Association ('Equity'), the U.S. labor union that represents more than 50,000 professional actors and stage managers, today announced the results of its 2015 national council election, with all seats effective immediately for three-year terms. Kate Shindle was named as new president of the union, replacing incumbent Nick Wyman.  Running uncontested in top-ranking officer positions were Paige Price (First Vice President), Rebecca Kim Jordan (Second Vice President), Ira Mont (Third Vice President) and Sandra Karas (Secretary/Treasurer).
