HALFTIME WITH DON
New Jersey Repertory Company
6/22-7/30/2017
New Jersey Repertory Company presents the National New Play Network World Premiere of HALFTIME WITH DON, by Ken Weitzman. Back in the '80s Don Devers was known in the NFL for stopping to help every opponent he knocked down get back up on their feet. Now Don has been brought to his knees by the cruel legacy of his high-impact heyday. Ed Ryan, a stranger who’s idolized Don all his life, arrives at his door searching for inspiration. Instead Ed finds his hero shut off from the world, attempting to stave off the encroaching offensive of traumatic brain damage with pills, Pringles and Post-It notes. Stephanie, Don’s pregnant, tough-as-nails daughter is sure she knows why he refuses to see even her. But she’s wrong. What she discovers, what they all discover through the mirror of Don’s decline, is an unexpected perspective on hope in the clutches of being merely human. Directed by Kent Nicholson, featuring Malachy Cleary, Susan Maris, Dan McVey and Lori Vega. Performances are Thursdays & Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 3pm & 8pm; Sundays at 2pm. A complimentary game-day buffet of chili, chips, and beer will follow the June 22 sneak preview.
