Clybourne Park in Broadway CLYBOURNE PARK
Alley Theatre
The powerfully provocative Clybourne Park, the 2012 Tony Award winner for Best Play and 2011 Pulitzer Prize winner, is the most talked-about show of the 2012 Broadway season and "the funniest play of the year" (London Evening Standard). Called "a spiky and insightful new comedy" by The New York Times and "completely audacious, ingenious entertainment" (Entertainment Weekly), and "superb, elegantly written, and hilarious" (The New Yorker), Bruce Norris' Olivier Award winner for Best Play pits Race against Real Estate. Two different generations of characters delicately dance around social politics as a white community in the 1950s splinters over the black family about to move in, and the roles reverse 50 years later with the start of gentrification. The razor-sharp satire explores the evolution of racism and how the date on the calendar may change but perceptions may not.

Cthulhu: A Puppet Play in Broadway CTHULHU: A PUPPET PLAY
The Ornery Theatre
The Ornery Theatre will present an original work, Cthulhu: A Puppet Play, at local art space 14 Pews from February 14-18th. Cthulhu: A Puppet Play is based on the cosmology created by the master of horror, H.P. Lovecraft (author of seminal classics The Call of Cthulhu, The Dunwich Horror , and The Dreams in the Witch House). Borrowing from Lovecraft's themes and characters, Cthulhu: A Puppet Play uses puppets, film, and an original score to capture the feeling of impending doom intrinsic to Lovecraft's works and place it in a modern setting. Cthulhu: A Puppet Play was conceived and written by Mike and Kelly Switzer of the Ornery Theatre. This production is made possible by a grant from the Houston Arts Alliance, as well as the generous support of Kickstarter funders from across the globe. The Ornery Theatre was founded by Mike Switzer and is committed to producing work, both new and classic, that would not otherwise be seen on Houston stages. The Ornery Theatre has previously produced the original puppet play Bedtime Stories (Producer's Pick at the 2011 Houston Fringe Festival), Rough for Theatre I and II by Samuel Beckett, and The Adding Machine by Elmer Rice. Mike's wife and artistic partner, Kelly Switzer, is an Assistant Professor of Drama at the University of Houston-Downtown and a local scenic and costume designer. Each puppet was handcrafted by Ms. Switzer. This production has attracted a wide swath of Houston's most talented artists. Stephanie Saint Sanchez, of the award-winning La Chicana Laundry Pictures, is the director of film. George Heathco composed and will perform an original score that utilizes the Morse Code translation of "Cthulhu is coming" as a thematic base. Local actors, dancers, musicians, and puppeteers involved with the production include: Matthew Carter, Paul Locklear, Kira Vincent, Chris Kemmerer, London Alexander, Luke Hubley, Shanon Adams, Ashley Horn, and Daniel Adame. Cthulhu: A Puppet Play will run on February 14, 15, 16, and 18 at 8:00pm at 14 Pews. Tickets are $10 and $5 for students with an ID. The production is not suitable for children under 13.
