(7/24/2014) - Canada's The Trews released their self-titled, Nettwerk debut digitally in April and supported it by heading down from the Great White North for a run of shows in the States. The quartet follows up with a jaunt through the mid-west starting August 10th in Michigan. Two of the shows (Cincinnati & Louisville) are make-ups for postponed gigs when singer Colin McDonald came down with a broncial infection and the band had to cancel their 2nd and 3rd performances ever in 1000+ gigs over 12 years.

(7/24/2014) - Crown Point, Indiana is known for incarcerating famous gangsters (John Dillinger), being the center point of movies (Public Enemies, a movie about Dillinger, was shot there), and for being a former "marriage mill" (no, Dillinger was not married there). One thing that isn't known is the variety of programming Crown Point Community Theatre is producing. CPCT is going to throw another comedic fiesta by hosting Los Improviachis, the world's only improvised mariachi band, on Saturday August 16th starting at 8 PM at 1125 Merrillville Road.

(7/23/2014) - Ailyn Perez, born and bred in Chicago, returns to her hometown's famous Ravinia Festival for two performances (Aug 14 & 16) as Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni - a role that the Dallas Morning News has said shows her to be "a singer of considerable nuance." LA Opera Music Director James Conlon leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for the run, which also features baritone Christopher Maltman in the title role, baritone David Bizi? as Leporello, soprano Tamara Wilson as Donna Anna and tenor Saimir Pirgu as Don Ottavio. The Chicago Tribune praised Perez's 2012 appearance at Ravinia, as Pamina in Die Zauberflote, as "show-stoppingall floating pianissimos and diminuendos and delicate pathos, which roused the sold-out crowd to a long, well-deserved ovation."

Broadway St. Preview performances are Friday, Aug. 15 and Saturday, Aug. 16, Thursday, Aug. 21 and Friday, Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 24 at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. is the Board Preview. An intensely naturalistic and darkly comic portrait of gloom and joy, violence and romance, Ecstasy is the story of six sharply drawn characters and their struggle against despair one evening in a run-down London flat. The production stars Boyd Harris, Maura Kidwell, Layne Manzer, Lauren Pizzi, Michaela Petro and Joel Reitsma. Mike Leigh connoisseur Shade Murray, who directed the Jeff Award-winning Abigail's Party for A Red Orchid in 2010, directs.

(7/23/2014) - The Second City, Inc. announced today the signing of a lease with Old Town Development Associates, L.L.C., to expand into additional space at Pipers Alley (230 W. North Avenue) formerly occupied by the four-screen AMC movie theater. The new lease adds 25,000 square feet to their current 20,300 square feet of space and essentially doubling its current footprint. The new space will allow the Second City Training Center, the largest school of comedy in the world, to add an array of student-centered facilities including new classrooms, two student theaters, a screening room, a student resource center, a student lounge and bar, two large special events spaces and additional space for the companies' growing businesses.

(7/22/2014) - Founded in 2014, Bluebird Arts is a Non-Equity company established in Chicago by Luda Solomon, who will serve as Artistic Director. The nonprofit organization's purpose is to enrich, educate and entertain the community by sharing intimate stories, which focus on the genuine problems of real people. Dale Goulding, former Artistic Director of the European Repertory Company (ERC) will serve as Executive Director, and Jaimelyn Gray of TUTA Theatre Chicago will serve as Managing Director.

(7/22/2014) - In its first professional production since its Broadway debut, the musical comedy WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN makes its Chicago area premiere in a brand new production at Theatre at the Center, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, September 11 through October 12, with a press opening on September 14. With an irresistible Latin-infused score by Tony Award-nominated David Yazbek and book by Jeffrey Lane (the team behind past Theatre at the Center hit DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS) WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN is a touching and hilarious story of a group of women whose relationships with men lead to a whirlwind of emotions- love as they find them, confusion as they lose them and passion when they need them. This regional premiere is directed by William Pullinsi with Choreography by Danny Herman and Musical Direction and Orchestrations by William Underwood.
