Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris appears in Glamour magazine's September issue and shares his reflections on the experience of starring in Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

"I thought that masculinity equated confidence, and I was struggling to feel confident," he tells the magazine. "Hedwig was a great active departure from that [mentality] because everything that I had known about confidence had to be thrown out the window."

He continues, "Now, all of a sudden, those masculine postures and inflections were tells that I wasn't doing the job right. I had to be overtly feminine, and it felt totally weird. Initially, walking around in heels is a very challenging thing for a guy to do. But once you've done it six or seven times, it's weirdly empowering. I had to move my hips and legs in a way that guys don't get to do so boldly - it was fun!"

Harris picked up the 2014 Tony Award for his starring role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The show is Harris' first appearance on Broadway since he starred as The Balladeer/Lee Harvey Oswald in the 2004 Tony-winning revival of Assassins. His other Broadway credits include Proof and Cabaret. He just completed production for the final season of the beloved CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother" and has been honored with four Emmy Awards: three for his acclaimed hosting of the Tony Awards and another for his guest-starring role on "Glee." His upcoming film projects include Fox's Gone Girl and Disney/Pixar's The Good Dinosaur.
