Photo Flash: First Look - Rosie O'Donnell Guest Stars on ABC Family's THE FOSTERS
Rosie O'Donnell will appear in a recurring role on ABC Family's hit drama series, THE FOSTERS. The show returns for a new season in January. Below, get a first look at O'Donnell in her guest starring role!
O'Donnell will first appear in the January 20th season premiere titled "House and Home". In the episode, while Callie feels the harsh consequences of running away from the Fosters' home, Brandon becomes determined to find her. in an all-new episode of "The Fosters" on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family. O'Donnell will play Rita Hendricks, described as a tough yet compassionate woman who works in the foster care system and becomes a mentor to a member of the Foster family. She will appear in three episodes of the series.
"I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful, heartwarming show. My kids and I never miss it," said O'Donnell of the series.
Rosie has appeared on the Broadway stage in Seussical, Fiddler on the Roof and Grease. She made her dramatic television debut in CBS's HallMark Hall of Fame production, Riding the Bus with My Sister.
On the big screen, O'Donnell has starred in A League of Their Own, Sleepless in Seattle, Another Stakeout, The Flintstones, Exit To Eden, Now and Then, Beautiful Girls, Harriet the Spy, Wide Awake, and was The Voice of Turk in Walt Disney's Tarzan. For six years, Rosie O'Donnell was America's best friend. For an hour each day she served as host and executive producer of the critically acclaimed and Emmy Award winning nationally Syndicated talk/variety series The Rosie O'Donnell Show.
"The Fosters" is a compelling, one-hour drama about a multi-ethnic family mix of foster and biological kids Being raised by two moms. Stef Foster, a dedicated police officer, and her partner Lena Adams Foster, a school Vice Principal, have built a close-knit, loving family with Stef's biological son from a previous marriage, Brandon, and their adopted twins Mariana and Jesus. Their lives are disrupted in unexpected ways when Lena meets Callie, a guarded teen with an abusive past who has spent her life in and out of foster homes. Lena and Stef warily welcome Callie and her younger brother Jude into their home hoping to provide them with the guidance and nurturing they so desperately need.
Over time, Callie and Jude open up about losing their parents and the hardships they suffered while in previous foster homes. Callie grows especially close to Brandon, but their mutual attraction causes jealousy and concern since foster children are not allowed to have intimate relationships in the same household. When Callie finally gives in to those feelings, she jeopardizes Stef and Lena's offer to make her and Jude a permanent part of the family. Not wanting to ruin Jude's chances of finally finding a stable, loving home, Callie runs away.
