Cilantro Boombox Premiere New Single 'Fears Away'
Austin-based group Cilantro Boombox has come an impressive way in just four short years. What started out as a collaborative track session between Bassist/DJ/Producer Félix Pacheco and Saxophonist/Flutist Joe Woullard (Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, Hardproof) has evolved into an eight-piece band that mashes up genres from multiples cultures, fuses them with electronica, and spits them out with a sound all on its own. Since emerging, the band quickly was tapped to perform shows with Café Tacvba at ACL Live, Los Amigos Invisibles, Nickodemus, and more, while playing notable festivals including SXSW and the Austin Reggae Fest. On May 1, 2014, the city of Austin will proclaim the day as Cilantro Boombox Day! To celebrate the band is releasing a new single "Fears Away" (#FEARSAWAY) on April 29th and will be headlining Stubbs Indoor for the Thievery Corporation afterparty
On May 1st, Cilantro Boombox will perform a song for the Austin Mayor and Council members in the council chambers at City Hall and will receive a Proclamation. The performance will air live on Cable Channel 6. Félix Pacheco enthusiastically states, "For a band formed by transplants from all over that decided to make Austin home, it is very exciting and humbling to receive this honor. We all feed from the amazing flow of talent this city offers."
Cilantro Boombox released their self-titled debut album in 2012, fueled by a successful Kickstarter campaign. Cilantro Boombox's melting pot of sounds and influences shape a very original and dynamic collection of tracks. The album contains 11 songs that borrow from Latin and Venezuelan rhythms, rock, disco, funk, hip-hop and even second line jazz; all the while maintaining a common sound and electronic vibe.
On April 29th, Cilantro Boombox will launch their new single titled "Fears Away" (editor's note: please use #FEARSAWAY, when posting about the single) b/w "Lluvia." "Fears Away is a feel good song inviting you to overcome your fears with a funky reggae vibe and a booming hip-hop beat - a crowd favorite during their recent live shows. The B-Side, "Lluvia" is equally as strong and ventures into an electro-house meets merengue mashup with the classic Cilantro Boombox groove to make you shed your inhibitions on the dancefloor.
