After many a-year, Clark and Ellen Griswold may be back to ruin another family vacation.

According to Variety, original franchise stars Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo have officially entered negotiations to appear opposite Ed Helms and Christina Applegate in New Line Cinema's upcoming reboot/sequel to National Lampoon's iconic VACATION series.

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein of HORRIBLE BOSSES wrote the script, and have also signed on to direct.

The Griswold family became a household name with the first entry into the franchise, NATIONAL LAMPOON's VACATION in 1983. It went on to spawn the sequels CHRISTMAS VACATION and VEGAS VACATION.

In this updated version, the film follows Clark and Ellen Griswold's son, Rusty, (Helms) "as he takes his family on a similar road trip that his family took when he was young." Applegate is set to portray his strong, independent wife whose love for him is slowly waning.

The publication reports that Chase and D'Angelo, should they ultimately appear, will only be featured on the "cameo level," and not featured roles.

The duo also recently appeared in a string of Old Navy ads that reunited the original cast of the VACATION series.
