Kristin Chenoweth Chats RIO 2, Singing On Screen & Voicing New Animated Character
Tony Award-winning Broadway superstar and recognizable multi-media crossover personality Kristin Chenoweth discusses her role in the new animated movie musical RIO 2 as well as comments on the musical material she sings within it as part of a new interview.
Describing her character, Chenoweth shares: "Well, Gabi is a poisonous frog - that's one of the reasons that she's been locked up in a jar for a long time; so she doesn't bite or kiss anyone, so she won't kill them."
And, the plot thickens, says Chenoweth.
"But, she's fallen in love with the lovable, lovable Nigel - but, she can't kiss him or she'll kill him!" Chenoweth hints at the dramatic thrust of their romance.
Yet, does Gabi share Chenoweth's penchant for song? "She is a singer! What else can she do?" Chenoweth reveals.
Chenoweth also shares of her big musical moment, "'Poisonous Love'. I heard it - I thought it was operatic in nature and perfectly written for her character."
Yet, will theatre fans be satisfied? "Part of it is Broadway because it is sort of spoke-sung in the beginning; certainly the chorus is more legit in nature," Chenoweth concludes.
The official description of RIO 2 is as follows: "It's a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids in "Rio 2," after they're hurtled from that magical city to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful Nigel, and meets the most fearsome adversary of all - his father-in-law. All our favorite "Rio" characters are back, and they're joined by Oscar® nominee Andy Garcia, Grammy® winner Bruno Mars, Tony® winner Kristin Chenoweth and Oscar/Emmy®/Tony winner Rita Moreno. "Rio 2" also features new Brazilian artists and original music by Janelle Monae and Wondaland."
RIO 2 is in movie theaters nationwide now.
