Joss Whedon on Bringing Out Ultron's Humanity in THE AVENGERS 2
In this week's Entertainment Weekly cover story, Joss Whedon opens up about the challenges of bringing the ultimate sentient robot villain Ultron to THE AVENGERS 2 - while still allowing the baddy to show a little bit of humanity.
As EW notes, Ultron, on paper, is pretty much unstoppable. His abilities include, but are not limited to, "super-human strength, speed, stamina, durability, flight, mind control, a coma ray and a genius intellect."
"I knew right away what I wanted to do with him," Whedon told EW. "He's always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it, he's got a bee in his bonnet. He's not a happy guy, which means he's an interesting guy. He's got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we'll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone [a new character, Scarlet Witch] who's a witch."

Filming for the superhero sequel is scheduled to begin in early 2014, with an eye towards a summer 2015 release.
