ANNIE's Quvenzhane Wallis & Orphans Spotted On Movie Set; Logo Revealed

The stars of the new modern cinematic retelling of classic musical family favorite ANNIE have been spotted on location throughout New York City this month shooting scenes for the forthcoming film in Harlem and Tribeca and a first look at lead Quvenzhane Wallis along with a fellow quadrant of her spunky and funky orphan compatriots has now leaked following a series of shots depicting Jamie Foxx and Wallis earlier this week.

Wallis speeds along the busy city street in a hi-tech CitiBike and rocks a wild mane of curly hair in doing so, furiously pedaling to and fro, while other shots depict the star congregating with her school pals - orphans and otherwise.

Also, a large truck with the faux advertisement for Stacks Mobile is visible in the on location shots just captured - obviously a company owned by Foxx's character, Benjamin Stacks - as well as a first look at recently announced star Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje on set.

Plus, a preliminary look at the logo for the film can be seen in the shots, highlighted by a artfully bounding figure accenting the i of the title.

Check out yesterday's BroadwayWorld article all about the ongoing filming of ANNIE in NYC available here.

ANNIE is directed by Will Gluck from a script by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna, starring Quvenzhane Wallis as Annie, Jamie Foxx as Benjamin Stacks (aka Daddy Warbucks), Cameron Diaz as Miss Hannigan along with Rose Byrne as Grace Farrell and Bobby Cannavale in a new role.

The starry roster of producers for the film include Will Smith and Jay Z, who also serves as music supervisor. Jay Z famously had a Top Ten hit with a rap version of the show's famous orphan theme "It's A Hard Knock Life" called "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)".

The film is reportedly a modern-day adaptation of the stage musical, set in contemporary New York City.

Of note, the property was previously first filmed by famed director John Huston in 1982, starring Aileen Quinn as Annie and Albert Finney as Daddy Warbucks, as well as lensed by CHICAGO helmer Rob Marshall in 1999, starring Alicia Morton and Victor Garber.

The original stage musical of ANNIE was based on Harold Gray's 1924 comic strip LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE and was directed by Martin Charnin, featuring music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan. Subsequently, the musical has been revived on Broadway twice, with the most recent revival playing at the Palace Theatre, directed by James Lapine and starring Lilla Crawford in the title role.

The big screen remake of ANNIE is set to be released on Christmas Day, 2014.
