Matt Coffman Posts Competitive Global Rallycross Test Times At GRC Lites Test
LAS VEGAS, Nov. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ On Friday, November 8, Coffman Racing's Matt Coffman tested for Global Rallycross GRC Lites, posting very competitive times and further increasing the buzz around this 20 year old motorsports phenomenon. Testing rounds occurred in two sessions with an approximate 22 participants vying for only a few driver openings for the 2014 GRC Lites season.
CEO of Coffman Racing, Lee Clark, explained the team's rationale behind the decision for Coffman to test for GRC Lites. "After racing in Formula Drift ProAm events during the 2013 season as well as only a handful of regional stage rallies, Matt still earned not only his Formula Drift license but his unrestricted Rally America one as well. It just made sense for him to try his hand at GRC Lites too. We're looking to broaden his racing experiences and this class certainly fits the bill."
Coffman himself agreed with this statement, adding, "I want to get behind the wheel of as many types of cars right now as I can. I really like FD [Formula Drift] and I definitely want to stay there and in stage rally too but there's no reason why I can't explore [GRC] Lites and other types of racing. I've met Travis Pastrana and Tanner Foust and some of the other drivers and they've all been really encouraging. It's a cool group of people in much the same way drift is, a family kind of so I really think it would be good for my racing experience and also a lot of fun!"
While many American auto racing and X-Games fans may be more familiar with the Global Rallycross main event drivers such as newly crowned champion, Toomas Heikkinen, fan-favorite, Tanner Foustand other GRC stars likeRhys Millen and Ken Block, the GRC Lites class is intended to provide mentoring and opportunity for younger, less experienced drivers who show talent and determination
Friday's event was the sole U.S. testing opportunity, following an earlier round in Sweden which fielded an impressive 40 drivers.
