There were a lot of major hits and major misses at last night's American Music Awards in Los Angeles. One of those misses, unfortunately, was Kerry Washington in Stella McCartney.
This is one of those better in theory looks. Hot color of the moment? Check. Lace trend? Check. Flapper reference? Check. Amazing designer? Check. So how did this look go wrong?
The silhouette is too stuffy - I feel like Washington found this dress in the back of her Grandmother's closet and dyed it yellow. The long sleeves and high neck are too conservative and although I love the nod to the 1920's with the boxy shape, length and fringe, it comes across as old rather than fresh. Add to it the random pop of color with her coral shoes, the matching yellow clutch with retro hair and this whole look becomes way too costumey.
Kerry Washington - you are too beautiful to have such a fashion miss!
