Pierce Ball Gallery Presents 'The Art of Transformation', 9/20
Transforming paper or clay into works of art is the theme of the new show at the Pierce Ball Gallery in Stamford.
"The Art of Transformation," a one weekend only show, will be open to the public Saturday and Sunday September 20 - 21, 1-5pm. The show features the work of 2 artists - Deborah Weiss's works on paper and panel and Mindy Horn's ceramic vessels and sculptures. There will be a preview on September 19, 5-8pm.
"I selected these 2 artists because of the complimentary nature of both of their art. Both have a subtle intensity to their work. You look and look again, each time seeing something different," said Elizabeth P. Ball, Director of the Pierce Ball Gallery.
Deborah Weiss's work is an exploration of the effects of atmospheric conditions on land, water and the resulting patina of time. These elements inform her work and at times determine the subject matter. As an artist/printmaker, Weiss's work fuses the painterly with relief printmaking techniques on paper and panels. Her works are both meditative and hypnotic.
Mindy Horn approaches all of her work as sculpture, whether or not it is functional. She looks at form, balance, texture and color, striving for her vessels and sculpture to generate a feeling of visual intent, a feeling that they always existed as they do now.
In addition, the gallery will have on display and for sale paintings by 2 African elephants, Jabu and Thembi from Botswana. The Pierce Ball Gallery is the exclusive gallery for these special works of art.
