Exhibition by Ruth Mohn to Open at George & Mary Bobinski Gallery at MusicalFare Theatre
MusicalFare Theatre has announced a new exhibition by Ruth Mohn, Artist/Photographer in the George and Mary Bobinski Gallery.
The gallery officially opened on April 23, 2014 as part of the official opening of the Premier Center Cabaret at MusicalFare, where it is located.
"Deeply involved in music for most of my life, I am now semi-retired from professional singing and am finding joy and satisfaction in the visual arts, most notably photography and painting (especially acrylics and pastels)."
"In recent years, I have made presentations to camera organizations and have had several one woman shows of my paintings and photographs. My work is in numerous local venues and private collections and in the permanent collection of the Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo. I have been privileged to work with the photographers of the Buffalo Museum of Science Camera Club, the artists of Partners in Art Gallery, and, most notably, my teacher, friend and mentor, Coni Minneci."
"I enjoy finding the unusual in the midst of the usual, while always being open to new visions and exploration. Rather than make my work a showcase for a clever technique, I endeavor to provide a message and a reason for the viewer to pause and give thought."
"In the Spring of 2013, I published a book: My Life in the Arts: A Celebration. In addition to many images of my paintings and photographs, the book contains a 21-track CD of my vocal performances over a 40 year period that included opera, oratorio, church work and recitals. Aaron Copland, renowned conductor, composer and pianist, is my accompanist for 4 of these tracks."
"Ruth Mohn's study in blue was perhaps the outer edge of landscape abstraction." John Massier, Visual Arts Curator, Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center
"Wow. These are not just snapshots, but true photographs which took a lot of looking, thought and concentration. Ruth Mohn has a great ability to see the opportune time and place. Some of photography at its best. " Isadore Bleckman, cameraman for Charles Kuralt ("On the Road")
Gallery exhibits are planned to rotate with each MusicalFare Mainstage production and may, at times, reflect themes of that production. New artists will then be featured on a regular basis as part of MusicalFare's efforts to integrate even more with other disciplines within the WNY cultural community. All displayed artwork is for sale by the artist. The Gallery is accessible for patrons of MusicalFare's Mainstage and Premier Center Cabaret Productions.
