City Theatre (Produced by Different Stages)
Different Stages continues its 2013 - 2014 season with Julia Cho's prize winning play The Language Archive. George is a man consumed with preserving and documenting the dying languages of far-flung cultures. Closer to home, though, language is failing him. He doesn't know what to say to his wife, Mary to keep her from leaving him, and he doesn't recognize the deep feelings that his lab assistant, Emma has for him. Language and love are the twin themes of this loopy excursion into the difficulty of finding words for what lies in our hearts. A Susan Smith Blackburn Prize winner, this lyrical, quirky comedy offers a gorgeous look at the power of words and the private languages that love inspires. Directed by Karen Jambon (Good People), The Language Archive features Trevor Bissell (The Sunset Limited) as George. Circe Sturm (Proof) plays George's wife Mary and Eva McQuade (The Spanish Tragedy) plays the lab assistant Emma. Also in the cast are Jennifer Underwood (Arsenic and Old Lace); Norman Blumensaadt (You Can't Take it with You); Katherine Schroeder (New Orleans Fringe Festival) and Brian Miller (12 Angry Men). Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are Pick your Price: $15, $20, $25, and $30.
