Gary Barlow Reveals Insight Into FINDING NEVERLAND Score
The hotly anticipated new stage adaptation of the recent PETER PAN-centric film FINDING NEVERLAND is currently in previews out of town and composer Gary Barlow discusses the show as part of a new interview.
Barlow shares of how he and Kennedy became involved with the show and its noted producer, Harvey Weinstein, relating, "He said, 'We finished the musical, but we're short of one song.' So I said, 'Oh, great, let's see the show,' and of course one song led to two songs, three songs... we've replaced every song so it's completely our soundtrack now."
Additionally, Barlow says, "I think we tried to write one song where we thought, 'Oh, it sounds really musical theatre!' And Diane [Paulus, A.R.T.'s artistic director] hated it. So we just went back to writing three and a half minute pop songs."
Furthermore, Barlow shares, "I'm not going to at all compare myself to J.M. Barrie and his talent, but when you're a creative person, those insecurities - God, how well do we know that. It resonates I think with you as a writer as well. How your life can become your job and what you think, whether you like it or not."

The official description of FINDING NEVERLAND is as follows: "When a playwright meets a widow and her four boys in Kensington Gardens, he embarks on a friendship that inspires one of the most beloved stories of all time. Barrie and Laura Michelle Kelly as Sylvia Llewelyn Davies; with Michael McGrath as Charles Frohman, Carolee Carmello as Madame du Maurier, Jeanna de Waal as Mary Barrie, Aidan Gemme as Peter, Alex Dreier as Michael, Sawyer Nunes as George, and Hayden Signoretti as Jack.
