BroadwayWorld.com Celebrates 10th Anniversary Tonight with Two SOLD-OUT Concerts - And You Can Join Us LIVE!

OMG, tonight is the night! I've spent the weekend sitting in on rehearsals for BROADWAYWORLD.COM VISITS OZ, our 10th Anniversary Concerts which will take place at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater. We began working on planning this special night, last Fall and were thrilled when we sold out both shows, the day that tickets went on sale.

Then, the real work began.

I think that I can honestly say that we have a stunning line-up of talent, coming together to celebrate the anniversary of BroadwayWorld.com, and benefiting Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS.

We wouldn't have made it this far without your (the fans') constant support, as we built up our brand over these past 10 years and, although I know that you all can't be with us in New York City tonight, we know that you will be all here in spirit, and we will be raising a glass in your honor.

Now, some VERY EXCITING NEWS. If all goes to plan, Joe's Pub will be streaming the 9:30 show live over the web at: http://www.broadwayworld.com/ozlive So, we hope that you can tune in and join in the excitement of all things OZ.

I wanted to share with you as well, a brief note that appears, from me, in this evening's program:

Like most careers, some things simply can't be planned or foreseen. Back in my days at Syracuse University, I had my earliest theatregoing experiences. The one that most knocked me out, was hearing Michael Crawford in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. I quickly researched his career and, in my naiveté, decided to build a fan site in tribute (not too geeky!). Shortly thereafter, I heard from Mr. Crawford's charitable fan association, threatening me for violating numerous copyright laws and demanding the site's immediate removal from the Internet. My response was simply, "Don't threaten me, hire me." And the rest, as they say, is history. Of special note: That same Charitable Fan Association has since raised over $1 million for children's charities, that Mr. Crawford supports and are well-worth checking out at www.mcifa.com.

Fast forward to 2003, and that passion for theatre gave way to the creation of BroadwayWorld.com. Now, here we are, 10 years later. So many stories, so much drama, so much joy and...so much growth! We are celebrating our 10th anniversary and couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than by returning to Joe's Pub at The Public Theater and supporting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

The bedrock of BroadwayWorld.com was/is Broadway, and, over the years, with the best staff on the planet, we have expanded to cover all areas of live performing and other entertainment across the globe, and have the pleasure of serving more than 50 million readers a year!

But, the core community is still those 12 blocks of concrete that house the most famous theatres in the world. There is only ONE Broadway and our ongoing ties with BC/EFA, is one of the things of which we're most proud because Broadway is one of the most generous communities, taking care of their own. Big special thanks to Richard Jay-Alexander, Marybeth Abel, Mary-Mitchell Campbell and the rest of tonight's team for helping us kick off this special series in the best way possible.

Thank you all for coming tonight and for your ongoing support, and here's to the next 10 years!

Robert Diamond
CEO / BroadwayWorld.com

The talented cast, which includes (in alphabetical order): Sierra Boggess, Dee Dee Bridgewater, André De Shields, Jennifer Diamond, Kurt Domoney, Samia Finnerty, Mandy Gonzalez, Olivia Hardy, Roslyn Kind, Norm Lewis, Andrea McArdle, Kathy Najimy, Ken Page, Richard Ridge, Natalie Toro, Michael Urie and Josh Walden...plus special appearances by Jimmy Coogan, Luke Mannikus, Mitchell Sink and Nicky Torchia, will be celebrating BroadwayWorld.com's Anniversary and all things OZ, as they perform material and entertain from L. Frank Baum's delicious THE WIZARD OF OZ and all characters and incarnations, which would include WICKED, THE WIZ, all things that have to do with the Ruby Red Slippers... and even some Andrew Lloyd Webber. And, as they say in THE WIZARD OF OZ, "THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME"!!!

Robert Diamond Robert Diamond founded BroadwayWorld.com in 2003, which has now become the largest theatre web site in the world. He also serves as the site's Editor-in-Chief, covering Broadway and beyond, with specific local coverage for 100 cities in the United States, 30 countries worldwide and 15 other related areas of entertainment - including dance, opera, fashion, concerts, comedy, films, television and more.

The 2001 Syracuse University graduate (School of Information Studies) is also the owner of Wisdom Digital Media, an award-winning leading design company for entertainment and technology web sites. In his previous life, he held an executive position for the world's leading publisher of technology magazines, web sites and conferences and, as a result, was named among the "Top thirty magazine industry executives under the age of 30" by FOLIO Magazine.

Diamond got his start in the entertainment field, accidentally, when he created the 'official web site' (while in college) for Michael Crawford, the popular actor and original Tony and Olivier Award-winning star of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. (He still blames Crawford - and credits him - for anything that goes particularly right or wrong during an average day.)

As a respected member of the Broadway and theatre community, Diamond also served as Lead Producer for a series of sold-out shows using the BroadwayWorld.com 'brand' for a set of 'Standing Ovations' concerts, which also branched out into titles that included Holiday Shows and even more specific concerts like 'From Stage to Screen and Back Again' in tandem with publishers and movie studios. All proceeds were in turn donated to Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS, the industry's leader in aid for performers in need.

Robert lives in Manhattan with his wife and two dogs, growing the business and getting little sleep. In addition, you can usually find him in a theatre many nights a week.

Robert's very popular blog, 'The Broadway Pulse' appears daily on BroadwayWorld.com and he also writes weekly about theatre for the USA Network's Character Approved blog.

In December of last year, Diamond was one of 5 Syracuse University Alumni, all having achieved success in the world of start-ups, business growth and venture capital, participating on a panel addressing young alumni who are currently pursuing their dreams of running their own business and experiencing the day to day challenges of a startup. It is part of the university's new Student Accelerator Program, for which Rob was recommended by Syracuse University's i-School.
