34th Annual Easter Bonnet Competition Will Be Held On April 20 and 21

Starting tonight, company members and volunteers will be in theater lobbies across the country fundraising with iconic #redbuckets in hand for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Their efforts will culminate in the 34th Annual Easter Bonnet Competition (#BroadwayBonnets) on Monday, April 20, and Tuesday, April 21, 2020.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, on behalf of all of Broadway, Off-Broadway and the national tours involved in the organization's recent fall fundraising campaign, is awarding $100,000 in emergency grants to support Australia wildfire relief efforts. The grants will help provide immediate assistance to organizations doing vital, lifesaving, on-the-ground work in the region.

Borle, Groff, Warren and Watts also announced the judges' picks for best onstage presentations. Off-Broadway's Fiddler on the Roof - in Yiddish took top honors. In its number, the company added some chutzpah to the holiday season with the 'Radio City Chanukah Spectacular.' The keenly tuned parody, complete with Chanukah Harry, a dancing camel and a dreidel-infused Nutcracker, culminated in the glittering arrival of the high-kicking Menorah-kettes. The show, which was performed December 9 and 10, 2019, celebrated the 58 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies that participated in fall fundraising for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

This year's opening number was a sparkling celebration of the more than 200 actors making their Broadway debuts this season. The performance featured 60 newcomers, from a bevy of Broadway's brightest children to adults stepping into the spotlight. Featured performers included Jewelle Blackman and Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer (Hadestown), Clinton Greenspan (Aladdin), Gizel Jiménez (Wicked), Jeigh Madjus (Moulin Rouge! The Musical), Reneé Rapp (Mean Girls) and Marissa Rosen (Kristin Chenoweth: For The Girls). The full-hearted number, which received a standing ovation, was written by Michael Liscio Jr. and Jed Resnick, and directed and choreographed by Richard J. Hinds.
