On Friday, May 11, PBS will present an encore broadcast of their enormously successful Great Performances special Chita Rivera: A Lot of Livin' to Do, a career retrospective of the legendary theatrical icon. The program features interviews, archival performance footage and songs from Rivera's concert repertoire including such numbers as "A Boy Like That," "America," "A Lot of Livin' to Do," "All That Jazz," and "Nowadays."  The encore broadcast will air in the New York area on THIRTEEN/WNET Friday, May 11 at 10:00 PM ET. On Monday, May 7th The League of Professional Theatre Women (Kelli Lynn Harrison & Lisa Rothe, Co-Presidents), an organization which has been leading the gender parity conversation and championing women in the professional theatre for over 35 years, presented the final Oral History event of their 2017-18 season with two-time Tony Award winner Chita Rivera in the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (111 Amsterdam Avenue at 65th Street). Ms. Rivera talked about her life and illustrious career with Broadway World's lead correspondent, Richard Ridge, host of Backstage with Richard Ridge. 

For our first fabulous Tony memory, we turn to the incomparable Chita Rivera, who is being honored this year for a lifetime of achievement in the theatre.

The legendary Broadway icon has just added another honor to her vast array. On Friday, May 4, Chita Rivera was awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts Degree by the University of Florida, Gainesville, before thousands of graduating students and their families at the Class of 2018 Spring commencement. Rivera also presented a master class workshop to UF School of Theatre + Dance students and faculty following the graduation ceremony.

SPRING AT THE WILLOWBROOK INN, a new play by Jonathan Van Dyke, will be featured at the Tampa International Fringe Festival at the HCC Studio Theatre in Tampa, FL. The Tony Awards has just announced that this year's Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre will go to industry icons Andrew Lloyd Webber and Chita Rivera.

Rebel Theatrical Management, LLC (Harvey Butler, producer), in association with The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture, have announced, today, the cast and the creative team for the New York premiere of the new play Little Rock, written and directed by Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj. Performances are set to begin Wednesday, May 30, 2018 for a limited run through September 8, 2018 at The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture (18 Bleecker Street). Walnut Street Theatre's 2017-18 Independence Studio on 3 Season concludes with Andrew Lloyd Webber's romantic musical TELL ME ON A SUNDAY. Directed by Debi Marcucci and starring The Phantom of the Opera's Julia Udine, the production begins with previews on April 10th, opens on April 12th, and continues through June 10th in the Walnut's Independence Studio on 3.

The Actors Fund, the national human services organization for everyone in performing arts and entertainment, will hold its Annual Gala on Monday, May 14, 2018. The evening will celebrate Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker Warren Beatty, Tony Award-winning Broadway and film director Kenny Leon, currently director of Children of a Lesser God on Broadway, two-time Tony Award-winning actress, singer and dancer Chita Rivera, and Golden Globe-winning, Academy Award and Emmy-nominated actress Uma Thurman. Mr. Beatty, Mr. Leon, Ms. Rivera and Ms. Thurman will be awarded The Actors Fund's Medal of Honor. The event begins with 6 pm cocktails followed by a 7 pm dinner and tribute at the New York Marriott Marquis. The evening will include special tribute performances by guests to be announced.

One of the American theatre's iconic stars will add a University of Florida honorary degree to her record of achievements that include Tony Awards, the Kennedy Center Honor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Jerry's Girls is a musical revue comprised of the music of Jerry Herman. This fun, lively production includes some of Herman's most well known songs from Hello, Dolly!, Mame, Mack and Mabel, and La Cage aux Folles.

Walnut Street Theatre continues its landmark 209th season with Stephen Karam's Tony Award-winning play, THE HUMANS.
