RENT is coming back to Detroit! The Detroit engagement is part of the 20th Anniversary Tour and will be here from January 8th -20th at the Fisher Theatre. In 1996, an original rock musical by a little-known composer opened on Broadway and forever changed the landscape of American theatre. Two decades later, Jonathan Larson's RENT continues to speak loudly and defiantly to audiences across generations and all over the world. The Pulitzer Prize and Tony-Award winning masterpiece returns to the stage in a vibrant 20th anniversary touring production. A reimagining of Puccini's La Boheme, RENT follows an unforgettable year in the lives of seven artists struggling to follow their dreams without selling out. BroadwayWorld Detroit had a chance to speak with Logan Marks, who plays the role of Mark in the 20thAnniversary Tour of RENT, about the show, his iconic role, and why RENT is still going strong 20 years later. The Bishop Arts Theatre Center (BATC), Oak Cliff's multicultural and multidiscipline center for the arts, continues its 25th Anniversary 'Silver Threads' season with playwright Kathleen Anderson Culebro's La Llorona: A Love Story. The production previews on February 7th with opening night Friday, February 8th and continuing performances through February 24th.

Tony Award-winner Leslie Odom, Jr., who originated the role of Aaron Burr in the Broadway megahit Hamilton, is coming to John Paul Jones Arena at 3PM on January 19 as the 2019 UVA President's Speaker for the Arts. The multi-talented entertainer will discuss his life and career, the impact of the arts on education, and on the world in which we live during a brief address followed by a moderated conversation with University of Virginia President Jim Ryan.

The Fountain Theatre has announced a 2019-20 season of vibrant, thought-provoking, fresh and funny new work by a diverse group of playwrights, each of whom explores important social and cultural issues from a wholly unique perspective.

The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced that Mickey Thomas, the lead singer of Starship (formerly Jefferson Starship), will star as Dennis in its sensational new production of Rock of Ages. Rock of Ages is the '80s rock ballad blast that features the music of Styx, Joan Jett, Twisted Sister, and more. With Mickey Thomas as lead vocalist, Starship produced hits including "We Built This City" (which appears in the production), "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," and "Sara."

The Green Room 42 brings New Generation Theater Company's 'Louder Than Words' to New York City for a one night only engagement. 'Louder Than Words', is a musical tribute to one of Broadway's most celebrated composers, Jonathan Larson. The performance will play Saturday, January 19th at 7:00pm at The Green Room 42. The night will feature musical numbers from both 'Rent' and 'tick.. tick... BOOM' including 30/90, One Song Glory, Johnny Can't Decide, Out Tonight, Louder Than Words and more!

Telly Leung is a New York City native who was recently named one of the 'Out 100' by Out Magazine and 'Faces To Watch' by The Los Angeles Times. His Broadway and national touring credits include In Transit, Allegiance (with George Takei and Lea Salonga), Godspell, Rent (final Broadway company), Wicked (Boq, original Chicago company), Pacific Overtures, and Flower Drum Song.
