Thanks to strong performances and technically proficient staging, Marco Ramirez's THE ROYALE, while neither raging nor bullish, manages to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. The play runs through October 20th at the Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix.
VYT's THEY CHOSE ME! Opens This Friday

Valley Youth Theatre (VYT) is producing They Chose Me!, a musical written to create understanding and acceptance among and for children who are adopted or in the foster care system. Written by adoptive parent Ned Paul Ginsburg and Michael Colby, who will both be in attendance opening night, They Chose Me features twenty three young performers from around the Valley. The show runs October 11-27, at 525 North First Street, in Downtown Phoenix. Tickets are $20 and on sale now at www.vyt.com.

A brush poised over a canvas. An artist consumed by bitterness and regret. BLK BOX PHX presents a?oeBauera??, the riveting story of modern artist, Rudolph Bauer. Member of the avant-garde movement in Berlin in the 1930's and then of the abstract non-objective movement in New York, he survived Nazi prison and immigrated to the United States in 1939. His works were once at the center of the Guggenheim collection, alongside paintings by Klee, Chagall and Kandinsky. When Solomon Guggenheim died, his heirs relegated his work to the basement of the museum. Seemingly bound for immortality, Bauer was suddenly plunged into obscurity.

On Monday, September 23, 2019, Theater Works received a staggering 30 AriZoni Awards. The AriZoni Awards recognize excellence in theatrical performances, as well as individuals who produce exceptional work in all aspects of theatre across the Valley annually. Theater Works received 65 nominations for productions in the 2018-19 season, receiving six awards for the MasterWorks season and 24 awards for YouthWorks productions.

TheaterWorks opens their 2019-20 PuppetWorks season with Boo! A Halloween Spooktacular taking place October 12, 19 and 26. Boo! continues the black light style of puppetry which causes the puppets, scenery and even the audience to glow-in-the-dark. Boo! will be performed at 9am, 10:30 am and 12 pm at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts. Wailing Willow Way is the scariest street in town where no kid dares to trick-or-treat. Denny, Kenny and Penny venture down the street on the hunt for a fun-filled Halloween adventure. Hilariously spooky shenanigans ensue as they meet witches in the woods, a Gloomy Ghost and Count Fang as they travel through a Haunted Graveyard and encounter a Vampire's mansion.
