Founding Producing Artistic Director Liz Flemming and Out of the Box Theatrics (OOTB) have announced Off The Couch - a virtual new works play festival dedicated to OOTB's mission to diversify American theater by providing an inclusive and accessible platform for artists and patrons.

CHAIN THEATRE has announced casting for the world premiere production of Jean Dobie Giebel's CHASING THE RIVER, directed by Ella Jane New.

Chain Theatre presents world premiere production of Jean Dobie Giebel's CHASING THE RIVER, directed by Ella Jane New. CHASING THE RIVER, which was a finalist for the ATHE Excellence in Playwriting Award and has been optioned for TV, will play a limited Off-Broadway engagement at Chain Theatre (312 W. 36th Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10018). Performances begin Friday, February 7 and continue through Saturday, February 29. 

The Board of Directors of Gilbert Theater announce the selection of Lawrence Carlisle as its fourth Artistic Director, effective December 1, 2019. He will oversee the completion of the theater's 26th season, which continues with three upcoming productions in January - June 2020, before presenting his own inaugural season in 2020 - 2021.

Marking the 150th anniversary of 'the biggest hoax in history,' IndieWorks Theatre Company, Inc., in association with Visceral Entertainment, presents The Giant Hoax a new musical based upon the true(?) story of New York's famous Cardiff Giant, with book, music and lyrics by Kit Goldstein Grant, choreography by Molly Model, music direction by Jonathon Lynch and orchestrations by Mark Brymer. Christopher Michaels directs a cast of 13, including Paul Aguirre*, Mary Albert, Henry Fin Berry, Greg Carter*, Sarah Chiu, Yvette Monique Clark*, Jianzi Colón-Soto, Daniel Moser*, Robyne Parrish*, Kevin Riddagh, Staci Stout, Ben Tostado*, and Forest VanDyke*. Sixteen performances will be staged on a varying scheduling at Theatre Row's Theatre One (formerly The Lion Theatre) 410 West 42nd Street in New York City from November 19-December 7, 2019. The Giant Hoax is recommended for ages six and up.

Pittsburgh CLO will launch its second New Musicals Weekend, a project of the Next Generation Campaign's New Small Musicals Initiative. New Musicals Weekend, the mini version of the SPARK festival, takes the core goals of SPARK and puts them into action over just seven days. New Musicals Weekend aims to develop new musicals for the CLO Cabaret by supporting writing teams with financial and creative resources and by building relationships with local and national artists.

For a small donation to Pittsburgh CLO's Audience Development and Education programs, members of the public are invited to peek behind the scenes of a musical in the making as 10 writing teams from across the country converge in Pittsburgh to showcase their work through a series of public presentations featuring local and national actors. Performances will take place at venues throughout the Cultural District.

When you walk into the black box Carnegie Stage, the impressive and overpowering rear wall of text smacks you in the face. In front, on the stage, a scene from a dystopian mental hospital with an old spring bed and metal frame, a broken and dirty bathtub, and torn hospital curtains. This becomes the haunting backdrop for Sarah Kane's eerie 4.48 Psychosis.

In one last act of love to the theater,  Sarah Kane wrote what many consider her greatest play, 4.48 Psychosis.   A subjective story of clinical depression, the audience is given insight into one particular case - a young woman who stands in the place between life and death.
