The National Theatre has announced full casting for Bacchae, a new play by Nima Taleghani (Heartstopper) after Euripides, the first time a debut play will be staged in the Oliver theatre. 

Oscar-nominated actors Colman Domingo and Jeremy Strong are in early discussions to make their debuts at London’s National Theatre. The news comes as new Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham unveils her inaugural season, featuring a starry lineup that includes Paul Mescal, Nicola Coughlan and more.

The Old Vic has announced that Susan Wokoma (Cheaters, Enola Holmes 1 and 2) and Oliver Johnstone (All My Sons, Henry V) have joined the cast of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing.

The Old Vic has announced a new production of Tom Stoppard's comedy The Real Thing, directed by Max Webster (Macbeth, Life of Pi) and starring James McArdle (Mare of Easttown, The Tragedy of Macbeth) and Bel Powley (A Small Light, The Morning Show).

It would be interesting to see the show free from all the fancy listening gear so we can bask in the thrill of seeing Tennant and Jumbo grapple with their actions without a middleman. After all, isn’t part of the beauty of theatre that the audience isn’t separated from the story by a screen of any kind? The run is sold out (as it should be!) and they’re probably already in talks for a transfer (as they should!), but one wonders if this is actually what the future of drama is: a Shakespearean ASMR experience that will be dubbed as immersive. Fair is foul, and foul is fair.

The BBC is marking the 400-year anniversary of the publication of William Shakespeare's First Folio with a gripping new three-part boxset for BBC Two and iPlayer. To accompany the series, BBC Four will be showing a star-studded selection of performances of his plays and there will also be a collection of resources for primary and secondary schools on BBC Teach.
