I don’t know if the Census Bureau keeps track of how many Open Mics there are in the United States but add another one to the list, Cafe Centro in Palm Beach. 

It was an early-bird very special event in Florida yesterday as The Footlighters Club of South Florida honored their President Errol Dante who was celebrating his 80th birthday.  Many spoke in praise of entertainer Errol who in addition to having a long a successful career in show business has also dedicated his time and efforts to senior entertainers who benefit from the charity of the Footlighters club.  

The genius of John Pizzarelli, Jessica Molaskey, and the songs of the Great American Songbook (with a hat tip to Stephen Sondheim) were on the stage of the Eissey Campus Theatre last night.  The outstanding musical event was presented by the RRAZZ ROOM for the 9th Anniversary of Dick Robinson’s Legends Radio. 

Ann Hampton Callaway was at Cafe Centro, the intimate cabaret/restaurant in West Palm Beach which has become a premier music destination, on January 5. This marked her first gig of 2023.

Back in 60s, Jackie Gleason filled a railroad car with pals for a trip from NYC to Miami for his TV show.  In the 1920’s Henry Flagler organized a similar journey with a “party train” of friends..destination Palm Beach.  

Nicolas King and Seth Sikes have their own individual, respective careers and come from what would seem like different orbits. But, actually, it turns out, maybe not so much, because when they come together as THE NEW BELTERS, a special kind of energy force forms and it’s reminiscent of, say, Martin & Lewis (Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis). Her show was titled “Let’s Fall In Love” but the audience that filled every seat in the Arts Garage last night was already in love with the incomparable Ann Hampton Callaway before she walked out on stage. 

There was a heartfelt and emotional tribute last night to legendary producer/actor/singer Jan McArt at Lynn University.  On the same stage at the Wold Performing Arts Center that Jan McArt had greeted audiences when welcoming them to the world of theater and music, her daughter Deborah Lahr Lawlor stood before a full house and did the same.

Jazz/Pop pianist Copeland Davis began his residency at Cafe Centro last night and the evening took an exciting turn as a slew of soul singers in the audience joined for his opening night.  Copeland is a favorite of Dick Robinson’s Legends Radio and Taylor Morgan “Legends Afternoons with Taylor” host was in the house for some of the introductions. 

The Carlyle is one of the most famous hotels in the world.  It is known for hosting some of the most important people on the planet. Kings, Queens, Presidents, and various celebrities have “slept there” Currently this landmark on Madison Avenue is the residence of another Ambassador.  An Ambassador of the Great American Songbook.  Michael Feinstein will be on the intimate stage of the 88 seat night club through October 22 and again in December and on New Years Eve. 

PRIMARY STAGES and 59E59 Theaters, in association with Jamie deRoy, opened peerless last night at 59E59’s Theater A  by 2019/20 Tow Playwright-in-Residence Jiehae Park (Hannah and the Dread Gazebo) and directed by Margot Bordelon (…what the end will be)

Prediction:  for the next few days, everyone will be talking about Hugh Panaro and his mesmerizing solo concert debut here in New York City, at 54 Below.  What took so long? Who Knows.  But that doesn’t matter anymore because his two-day run on October 5th and 6th is totally sold out, which means he’ll be back and, surely, be exporting this all over the country, to London, Canada, and Australia, where audiences love exactly what he is giving them- BROADWAY, and plenty of it, but through the singular lens of his career. 

Manhattanites who yearn for the music and ambience of a Cafe Society piano lounge now have a location and entertainer to hang with.  If an Omar Sharif or Rudolph Valentino could play great piano and sing the American Songbook they would have been Eric Yves Garcia who opened at The Pierre Hotel’s 2 E Lounge last night, and he’ll be there every Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. 

Celebrities and Clint Holmes' fans filled every seat in 54 Below last night for the final performance of “Between The Moon and New York City”.   Check out the photos from 54 Below and the after party!

Clint Holmes has had a long and storied career.  He continues to be one of the most electrifying performers on the planet.  As crowed many times before, Clint’s voice, phrasing, physicality, and apple watch like jazz time are extraordinary.  When these unique skills are applied to his current show titled “Between The Moon And New York City”, the songbook and life of Peter Allen are given an original and inspired new take.

When Tony Danza hits the stage it becomes a master class in performance. The backdrop and decor of 54 Below can be a very diverting busy place but for the duration of his act your eyes never leave the charismatic Danza as you watch him “live and in person”.  Check out the performance photos here!

The Failure Cabaret was quite a success at 54 Below last night as the supper club was packed with fans from the Berkshires and around the globe came to see the unique cabaret performance. See photos from the performance here.
