Gayle Holsman Seay is the Artistic Director of STAGSE St. Louis. She was formerly the co- owner and casting director of Wojcik/ Seay Casting. Along with her partner, Scott Wojcik they cast in all mediums. National and International tours: Jesus Christ Superstar, Something Rotten!, RENT, Kinky Boots, Rock of Ages, Motown, Jekyll & Hyde, West Side Story-Tokyo, Dreamgirls, Nice Work If You Can Get It, ,Flashdance, Joseph… Dreamcoat, and A Chorus Line. Stages St. Louis, in collaboration with the creatives at the UpBrand agency, has released the artwork for their highly anticipated 40th Anniversary Season. The season opens with the hilarious and delightful charmer The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Tony Award Winner James Monroe Iglehart will direct Stages second show of the season, Guys and Dolls. The season will close with the heartwarming and uplifting tearjerker Come From Away.

The STAGES St. Louis season opens at the end of May with the hilarious musical whodunit Murder for Two. A famed novelist is killed at his surprise birthday party and everyone attending is a suspect. A small-town police detective, piano playing Marcus Moscowitz, arrives to investigate and question all 12 suspects. The 12 suspects are all played by one piano playing actor. The zany music-filled murder mystery unfolds as Detective Moscowitz interviews the eccentric party guests. STAGES St. Louis artistic director Gayle Seay knew she had to find the perfect team to lead this madcap comedic thriller. Casting two actors who are piano playing virtuosos, plus standby actors for each role was hard enough, but she immediately knew who she wanted to direct. Enter Michael Kostroff.

The nominees’ reactions are starting to pour in following the St. Louis Theater Circle Awards announcement last week naming the nominees. Awards will be presented in 34 categories for outstanding achievement in Musicals, Dramas, Comedies, and Opera. Leading all companies is The Muny with 30 nominations. Two of the nominated actors are Adam Heller and Jessica Vosk. Heller played Tevye in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, and Vosk starred as Jenna in The Muny premiere of WAITRESS. Both were nominated for Outstanding Performer in a Musical.

Tesseract Theater Company had a breakout year, placing two productions on this top 10 list. The Black Rep, ERA, They Muny, New Jewish Theater, The Repertory Theater of St. Louis, and STAGES St. Louis all benefited from positive word of mouth and strong single ticket box office sales thanks to their marvelous seasons and well-reviewed productions.

The dictionary doesn’t hold enough superlatives to describe the superb quality of this production. This review is going to sound cliché in its description but be assured that a hysterical and entertaining 90-minutes awaits anyone who buys a ticket to witness murder, see whodunnit and experience theatrical excellence.

While Salgado’s choices are modernistic, it is his focus on the characters and their love story, told through Elton John and Time Rice’s score that allows this production to provide an emotional wallop.
